How the fuck does anyone get home on a Friday?

Such is the beauty of Friday’s on the roads that the slightest hold up on a primary route can have a ripple affect throughout the day.
In general the rush-hour starts earlier so some weeks getting home can vary from surprisingly quiet to ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ of the highest order.

So many variables to consider but on a whole by 2pm I usually know if I’m gonna be home or not.
Although some Friday’s I’m home by 2pm and on it like a car bonnet as me daughter would say, I’m pretty sure she is referring to her boyfriends todger. Apple, tree etc…

You wanna try getting out of jag land rover solihull at 12 pm on a Friday it’s carnage… Also the way the government see it in regards to driving hours is as a professional driver you should foresee the situation in advance and plan accordingly

The best thing about my job is the planners acknowledge you’ve been at it all week. We get some early starts as the best way to make money on boxes is to be tipping palletised loads at 5/6am. So come Friday the last one generally rolls back in the yard by 4. Any later and it’s because the job has gone ■■■■ up, not the planning

I saw you in Tilbury parked up mid morning yesterday :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

I had a good day yesterday. Started at half 7, did a changeover at Travis Perkins outside the dock, spent nearly 2 hrs talking ■■■■■■■■ and drinking tea, went to proctor and gamble Thurrock at 11 then dropped the truck at mc in Thurrock at 1ish. Home by half 2. Makes a change from Coltons, I’d be leaving Croydon at about half 2, to reload Park Royal and tip Thurrock “on the way home”

Id have to say the government to a point is correct.
Although one can do very little if an incident occurs nearby on route and unreported pro drivers can do a few things to give lady luck a helping hand.

When faced with a massive problem on a primary route diverting early and getting creative can mean the difference between a stressfull or relaxed journey home. Also experience in heading towards the scene of a problem when everyone else is trying to avoid it can pay divdends, this can be a very risky gamble though.

Fridays can be a great learning curve for noobs wishing to embrace a map book, they can also be usefull for those wanting to toss it off a bit and maybe turn a Friday finish into a cheeky little relaxed Saturday run in by using a high risk route.

Horses for courses but im paid to drive, I like to drive, arriving is a secondary side affect of what I enjoy doing.

Was back in the house for 4 yesterday afternoon [emoji4]

That never happened when i was on general.

I’m on general and was back in the house for 12 yesterday [emoji14] Afternoon collection got cancelled… what a devastating phone call that was

The only time i ever got an early finish on a Friday was when the wagon was due it’s 6 week inspection.

You sure do have a way with words my friend [emoji3] I bet you have a good cv… I do agree with what your saying but I bet if push come to shove with vosa and you went over your hours they would throw that quote at you

I’m fairly VOSA immune but currently getting a bit of grief over a tyre issue. It’s in the change window but OK to run with for a few days. As it’s the weekend and I’m ■■■■■■ my last phone call to the maintenance company went a bit like ‘change it or the ■■■■■ thing don’t move on Monday’.

Soon to be followed by an apologetic phone call from me and a polite request to do me a favour and change it or all hell will break loose on Monday from HQ as its a VIP load.

Surprising how a little humble pie and bollock tickling work wonders.

Got caught in the knock on effects of this on our local roads just going to the supermarket at well after 6pm yesterday. So it’s anyone’s guess when they got home if they were going far. :open_mouth:

surreymirror.co.uk/Traffic-q … story.html

ive been roped in to do a six shift this week mainly newark to doncaster and bristol area and back not bad on the whole but the organization is terrible loads not ready and waiting empty trailers not available etc etc ( the job relies on elements being in place to make it smooth )
last time i did this a couple of weeks ago getting back on friday was a nightmare m5 crawling from strensham all the way to brum with a closed lane in the roadworks for good measure. i did divert to a46 which was not great but ok… moral of the story make sure you have a 15 spare

I feel sorry for those 9-5ers who try and get home by leaving the Medway City Estate during evening rush hour…
There’s an endless stream of traffic coming through the tunnel, of which I’m often part of - and traffic going the other way gets straight through, and leaves no gaps. :smiling_imp:
You might be able to claim expenses for your driving - but nothing will ever replaced the wasted time experienced in rush hour traffic…
Best to be employed DURING it then, or at least not trying to get to and from work during it.

I thought I was nailed on to be home Friday just gone…easy day…ran down Thursday night as far as Coventry from Immingham. Then down to melksham (coopers tyres) for 8am Friday to load a 40ft box with tyres…as long as I was loaded by 3pm I would have a casual run back home…

Needless to say they managed to ■■■■ everything up and I rolled out of that hole at 4pm just in time to hit every jam possible. Spent the night in Newark… On the plus side I had a few beers and a kebab and another nights sleep uninterrupted by the kids…Mrs not to happy though (standard)!!

I walk over to Mc Donald, have a Breakfast Wrap and then the Bus for £1.40 to be Home by 06.00 Am

Get my last delivery off Thursday, then park not to far but not to close to depot.

Start early-ish, drop in for some breakfast and get the truck washed.
