How often do you wash your lorry?

2 or 3 times a month I drive to a blue beacon truck wash and the company pay $75.00 a time.

depending on mhat work i have been doing normally once a week, but sometimes its once a fortnight, :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I came off coaches onto trucks, so was used to washing coach by hand every day or 2, every friday no matter what.

Most of the firms I’ve worked for had washes in the yard, so the truck would get a blast every week or so, always in works time, so if I haven’t got the hours, it can’t get done.

Now, I’m on for a firm with an account at Lymm truck stop was, no idea where else, so it’s been done once since I started, and the 1st job the next day was a Lime quarry in Buxton :imp:

Problem is, when I’m passing Lymm, I’m usually on a tighter time schedule, so it’s always a special journey, seems daft just to get a truck washed, about an hour round trip + fuel + time being washed + paying the guys to do it, so it’ll only get done when minging now unless I do manage to get some free time when passing (not likely though).

as an owner driver i tend to was mine every saturday as one of the trucks i drive is on containers all the time and some of the container yards i go to is like a swamp so it soon gets covered in mud and dust.

As for cleaning the inside i usually clean the interior when im parked up on my break .

Like most of the drivers on here i cant stand working/sleeping in a ■■■■ high cab.

sometimes struggle to get wagon washed because i can’t be arsed sitting in a queue of shiney general fleet motors driven by the likes of that topgun fellow. some drivers wash thir wagonevery day, just to drag the day out for an extra hours wage. really can think of better things to do with my time! oh and wheel black? really■■?

inside kept clean though, its home for a week after all. but damp cloth and occasionally a bit of polish. really hate a glossy dashboard!

My boss is big on having the fleet clean,he runs a fleet of about 38 units,200 trailers and 12 rigid’s and has our own on-site drive through wash, also access to power hose, soap and brushes,if he sees us slacking he normally waits to we are busy and makes us do it so we will do it next time were not so busy, the fleet is white so i have to clean mine every 2nd day,i normally spend at least half an hour on it,its like a work out to do it thoroughly, but i get great satisfaction from having one of the freshest and cleanest trucks in the fleet,i feel i must do a major clean on a friday i like to be able to head off far away on a Monday all clean, its a bit annoying when it rains and ruins the hard work but if it has a good base of polish its easier cleaned,i spent ages on it tonight, but i was told my hard work isnt going unnoticed and i might be in for a treat of bling for her,so fingers crossed, some think im mad but its just me!

5.2 trailers to every unit?

Park up on Friday, go home. Back in Sunday or Monday and the boss has washed the truck over the weekend. But still like to walk round to make sure he has done a good job and not missed anything, last week he didn,t top up screen wash had to have a word with him.

Yes, so many trailers are needed as we are based in Ireland, all our work is delivering to shops here from major warehouses in England,so there is normally a good few trailers at all customers yards at all times, one on a unit all the time, lots in shipping yards waiting shipping, others on the boat and others in our own yard getting emptyed, filled or serviced etc.

I’m a london bus driver.
The buses get put through the wash everyday and have a deep clean every 3 months, deep clean= interior windows/seats/inside roof etc etc.
I clean the front windows/mirrors/drivers cab each time I drive a bus.

as often as i can , sometimes i’m out all week & i dont get near a hosepipe, other times i can be home every night but just cant get near the wash ! i got to admit i feel better when i drive a clean lorry , i believe the condition of the truck reflects on the driver , it also reflects the drivers attitude towards the job , this stands for any position regardless of occupation

What he said.

I never wash the truck/trailer, (currently over a year since I’ve been there), as the company don’t provide wash facilities and I ain’t spending my own money to wash another man’s property.

Lol

Try to wash lorry at least once a week but depends on what time i pull into yard and how many outhers are waiting to wash as some drivers seem to live on the ■■■■■■ wash,
one chap twice a day everyday :unamused:

Mine hasnt been washed in at least three weeks, a dirty truck is a working truck!

at the end of every shift company policy. just park it up press the button and let it do its job while you walk off for a brew. jet wash the wheels and jobs a good un

jonboy

once a week if its lucky

Ive gotta wash mine on return to the yard unless it returns clean, we can use truckwashes but i dont depending on what truck ive got, if its an older truck i dont mind but the newest of new i wash by hand…■■■■ much

only takes about half an hour to wash a truck down tbh. we also do our interior aswell which seems to take forever lol,

This is one of my biggest gripes at D.H.L, the depot i work at, we dont have a wash (not even a hose :open_mouth: ) if they did i would do mine every day, i hate 'em dirty, like to keep em clean, diesel tank shining etc, but they dont seem fussed, so i did it at another depot once, so my answer is… once this year,
i may do it once again before the year is out, then again (and more than likely) i may not.

You didnt need to wash it that often as your nightman washed it loads!!!

Need to do mine most days as tipping on farms, most have a pressure wash.
Or sometimes twice a day, if i’ve had to tip waste dough in some farmers shed, usually covers the wheels.
