Those of you that do wash it, when do you do it? Because it must take…what, 30 minutes to an hour to do it properly, possibly longer.
Are you staying at work an hour longer than you normally would? say you get back to the yard at 6pm but choose to stay till 7 and wash it?
I can’t remember the last time I had “free time” where there was no loads say prior to 6pm (I’m a day man normally)
Being agency of course, they’d never pay me that extra hour to stay and wash it, even on a “permanent” contract. So Its a genuine question. I’m not trying to suggest anyone’s washing them on their break etc.
Alex
Depends on finish time/weather etc. But do if get back to yard before 6/630 ish I do it then. Have done it in mornings before leaving at times but not very often.
We’ve got drivers who do it before and after they’re paid. I do it when the work runs out and recently I’ve worked late (5pm) so there’s no way I’m doing it. Most of the dirt is from the state our quarries are kept in so if they want clean lorries, buy a proper truckwash and fill in the bloody potholes…
This is one of my biggest gripes at D.H.L, the depot i work at, we dont have a wash (not even a hose ) if they did i would do mine every day, i hate 'em dirty, like to keep em clean, diesel tank shining etc, but they dont seem fussed, so i did it at another depot once, so my answer is… once this year,
i may do it once again before the year is out, then again (and more than likely) i may not.
i did get caught by an ex boss when i was working for him once, couldnt sleep one night at Harwich docks, so started polishing truck at 01:00am, 20mins later boss came rolling in and saw me
Ive not washed mine in about 3 month, dayshift is no longer allowed. Only nightshift is allowed to wash every other day this is to save water and the planet what a load of ■■■■■■■■. It was absolutely immaculate now its boggin all the time
my motor gets washed once a week along with whatever trailers and units im washing at the time, we get a fiver for keeping the motor clean as part of the bonus
bigvern1:
We take ours out clean. They HAVE to be washed on our return. Unless it’s ■■■■■■■ rain, or pitch black.
Part of our job is image. They want them looked after, which is fair.
At the end of the day, they resell for more, which keeps our fleet modern, I also hate dirt!
Ditto.
1 truck, 1 driver. It’s yours, look after it.
We have an account with the truck washes in the services. They get the thick off and do a pretty good job. I try to get mine cleaned regularly but sometimes we dont have the time. Luckily the work we do is on motorways and to industrial estates so its pretty clean. We dont have washing where we park but if we did i would wash them at least once a week.
I had the last one for 9 months and never washed it once as a protest against having it forced on me, I’d clean the glass and lights and that was it. I used to try and keep the previous tidy and I’ll do my best with this one but I’ll do it on the rare occasion I’ve got slack time and the yard wash area is not full of machines or the crap off the machines.
I had a couple of hours a week or two back so I got the metal polish out and a scourer and went to work on the Alcoa wheels to make them a bit shiny. Later in the day I had two quarries in the rain so they were caked in crap until I washed it on Tuesday, so it’d be clean for the signwriter whilst I was off the rest of the week.
Not very often, when you can spend the best part of 2 hours washing a unit and belly tank the gaffer always says weve not done enough plus after 5 minutes in the quarry and a wheel wash that recycles the lime filled water it looks like its not been done for months, so thats how long it gets left. My truck will think its christmas in 2 weeks time, it will get a thorough good cleaning, its mot is due so the dealers will do it. Then the following week it goes of contract to be replaced with a new one.
i wash mine every chance i get, every day if possible,we have at least a dozen truck washes at our depots all over the country and if we didnt have them washes id do it with a hosepipe and broom, you cant beat a clean and tidy driver and truck, set yourself a standard and dont drop below it,i even black my tyres about once a month at least and the inside is wiped down every day and polished once a week…yep i wouldn"t feel right if i went home at the end of the week and left my work tool dirty…mmmmm…luv it
I love the fact this has become a competition as to who washes it least.
I was mine every chance I get, which isn’t often enough. I love a clean lorry and would wash it every day if I could. And yes my truck earns plenty of money thanks, along with the fact that on fridge work a company that keeps its truck clean is more likely to keep the inside of the fridges clean.
No wonders we can’t get on the wash then Mo!!!
No,I totally agree with you mo,I do mine everychance I get,I’ve got high standards and my gaffer dreads when someone uses my truck and leaves it dirty,he knows he’s going to get earache off me!!!
I had a real crap week last week, but after a weekend off I feel better,so washed it by hand at Barlborough this afternoon and now just spent an hour before going to bed polishing inside and out, blacked the tyres and now shes ready for the week, but you watch it pee down tomorrow now!!! Ggrrr!!!
Night night all.
since stobarts took over ive never washed a truck ,they employ folks to do our dirty work,we just stand back and bark the orders at them,NOT ZB GOOD ENOUGH,START AGAIN
I keep the interior, windows and mirrors clean all of the time.
The body gets done when its looking particularly grubby and I find myself back in the yard early (best to fanny about doing that than risk being asked to “just nip” out somewhere else when you get into the office). We’re not always in the same wagons though at my place (rigids) and i’ve managed to avoid washing a truck now for a good couple of months as I never find them that dirty.
I got ■■■■■■ off a long time ago cleaning the motor only for some other monkey to climb into it afterwards. Can’t remember the last time in all honesty. Glass and mirrors, that’s it.
