How much DCPC training completed?

Out of idle curiosity I wonder what the current situation is for those drivers needing to renew their DCPC in 2019?

I’ve done 2 days got another next month then 2 early next year ,

2024 I will take a long hard look as I will be 50 the next year so medical needed as well by July

I’ve done 3 so far, but I’m cramming them in a short time with 2 different providers.
The 1st was in early sept 18, then 2 modules in Oct on consecutive sats, I’ve another (No4) next sat 3/11, then the last is booked for 17/11. Ironically 1, 2 & 4 are the same module, 3 & 5 are the same subject as 1,2, & 4 but polar opposites in terms of quality and facilities. At £80 a go from my own pocket, it’s a strain on my beer money fund.
But in a period of around 10 weeks starting with nil hours I’ll have completed it all

Did one on a Saturday, Vehicle, Safety, Systems and Fuel Efficiency. I also did the same module three times for the last round of CPC. so now sat the same one 4 times.

And got 2 for my ADR.

2 to go.

Not doing it Harry,
Really had enough of it all now, 65 and retiring in June and that will mark 44 years of HGV1 and another three years tacked on the front of that driving a ten ton gross Bedford TK on a car licence prior to the 7.5 ruling. Yep, if it weighed less than three tons, (I think it was 2 tons 19 Cwt) you could drive it. my old TK had eight stud wheels too.
So I think I have done enough and will hang up the keys then.

I’ve done one day so far and will do another one before the end of the year. I’ll probably do the rest before I go away boating again at Easter, but this will possibly be the last time I do it as my entitlement will run out in 2024 one week before my 65th birthday. I won’t get my pension until I’m 66 but I’ll look for something else for the last year.

Not done one yet as each time I look at the courses my arteries harden and I feel life slipping away at the thought of listening to complete b@ll0cks for 7 hours. I will however do a first aid course which should be mandatory in my view

Done.4 modules or whatever they call it. Paid to attend and it’s free to me so as an alternative to battling with lunatics on the highways it’s far easier to spar with lunatics in a classroom.

I feel your pain mate, and agree with you fully.
I reckon the propaganda has worked yet again with drivers, they just seem to accept it all nowadays, (and worse still…some actually think it’s a good thing :open_mouth: ) where as pre dcpc everybody and their Dads were dead against it.
Only done one session of mind numbing boredom myself up to press. I would not mind it as much if it did not have to be done in my own time, but not only that I have to fund the ■■■■ thing myself. :unamused:
One of the pitfalls of working for a greedy firm.

I have to fund mine too which makes it far worse.

Done 4, last one planned for next year even though I may retire before current DCPC runs out. However, employer does the training in house, and I get paid for the day, so why not

Anyone looking who is near Andover, please send me a PM

7 hours to complete before Sept next year sadly.

And yes it is mind numbingly boring but I go in works time, get paid for attending and the course is free, and if I end up going in the daytime then i get an extra night off work paid as well. And sandwiches are provided as well.

Oh and the pool car is usually available for travelling to the courses, they usually try to book at least 2 of us together on every course as well.

The week after the 2014 deadline passed I was between jobs, so did an ADR course and got 28 hours! So that was me pretty much sorted for 5 years. But I do have to do one more before the 2019 deadline. We get it free at my firm, and get it at night too, but unfortunately we have to do it on our nights off. I can’t stand this crap.

Usual comments about it being complete ■■■■■■■■ I see but if it isn’t needed then why do we have so many questions about basic drivers hours?

It’s flawed. No need for 35 hours. There should be a yearly course covering first aid, current tacho regs, current DvSa regulations on load carrying, safety checks etc. This should be carried out by an accredited training company. Not a bunch of chancers speeling out PowerPoint crap. In my view that would probably be a more interesting / productive day and done and dusted.

Tin hat firmly on

But taking the DCPC is no guarantee that a driver will understand basic drivers hours rules. In fact, I remember someone who had taken the DCPC confidently stating here that it was not legal to take two consecutive reduced weekly rest periods.

It’s flawed. No need for 35 hours. There should be a yearly course (most would do 1 a year anyway) covering first aid, current tacho regs, current DvSa regulations on load carrying, safety checks etc. This should be carried out by an accredited training company. (only properly trained and accredited people can train you anyway) Not a bunch of chancers speeling out PowerPoint crap. Your answer is flawed from the outset

So another driver that don’t know what he / she is talking about :unamused:

Because there’s no test no one has any incentive to actually learn anything

Are you talking about an instructor who presented the course Harry or a driver that sat through the course ?
