Would that of been at the recruiting office in Manchester by any chance .
I wanted to be a window cleaner on a submarine but he thought that I might be more suited for the air force.
I was in the REME for about ten years traveled all over the world and was drunk for most of it.
I did 10 years, started out in RAOC then RLC.
Came out to spend more time with the family, ended up tramping. The wife said she saw more of me when I was in the army!
How come when all the jobs come to an end, they force them to join the transport industry, they did it to the coal miners, they did it to the shipyard workers, they did it to British Leyland workers, and then they do it to army and air force.
The transport industry is on its arse because it is over subscribed, too many drivers, too many lorries
Royal Signals, that’s bleeps to you, 1979-1999. Followed my dad, 4 brothers in law and my brother and my kids also served/serving. Also a combat power man, never used a radio in my life. Now I sit in the yard waiting for someone to tell me when I can go to the toilet, wish they would hurry up I’m bustin.

The forces have always been a big contributer to the industry. A lot of them have the licences as a requirement of whatever job they did when they were serving. A good precentage of them will also have full ADR (all 9 classes).

‘…royal green jackets…’
Yeah, cheers to about three of them for wrecking Aya Napa’s economy for the Cyp’s - as well as ending a good run-out for thousands of fun-seeking herberts.
I ‘knew a bloke there’ who was on R&R from an NI Black Shed with some mates that fateful night
Colleagues of those brave shovellers weren’t quite as chipper a few months later when a broken Walter (a coal-fired type of flying machine) ditched gallons of hydraulic oil on their Holywood Bks parade square.
‘…Put your spillage plan into action, mate…’ went down none too well with the bloke with a pointy-stick - but was a vinegar moment for the plucky crab with the hammer & spanners
Have the RGJ’s survived the millions of cuts?
Am too idle to trawl the www to find out myself, obviously
