Yes I was sad as a younger man also.
Turkey was the place to buy all manner of danglies for your windscreen and I, like many more drivers had the flags, the waving hands, and even the Christmas tree with lights!

All mine was bought in truck stops most of which are gone ,you don’t see any british lorrys with them in anymore :frowning:

The flags on the windscreen had to be removed when having the MOT, Regards Larry.

Hi Larry,I know that was the pain of it then putting it all back up

I had the scarves on suction cups with “Foden” on them, plus the “shiny ladies” bobbing about, a St Georges’ flag in the rear window, “Nathan” plate in the front windscreen.
All in a 3000 series.
I heard that on Smiths years ago, nameplates etc were banned plus vinyl sunstrips that promoted stuff not associated with the company. Rumour was that one of the long deceased Smith family members wouldn’t allow a newspaper in the screen as they weren’t into advertising…
I had an Oxfordshire flag and my nameplate in the flour wagon I drove until someone took them out and they vanished one weekend, and my current boss doesn’t like bling (not arguing as it’s such a ■■■■ easy job).

Despite only being there a short time (that was long enough) I joined in the nameplate tradition.

My youngest son Nigel drove this when he was 20.yrs old, He wasn’t to keen on flags but he just had these, Regards Larry.

.

Ohh my god,my biggest no! no! was having anything in the screen at all.If you had driven the older lorries you would have known the bigger the screen the better.
you will be saying next who had fury clog,s and dangle chain key rings with the massive black wallet. The firms i worked for you would
have been sent up the road and your flags with you.sorry but true.

I was guilty lol

This was mine with rotherwas I had a flag in the back of it

Hi Larry, are you still going and how long you been in the game if you don’t mind me asking

■■■■■■■ flags    This is a depot shot of a few months old 111 new into service Jan 77’,Frank Russell who was one of our Morecambe based drivers is at the wheel and he got this motor new,he was a great driver and was a master of his trade in all respects, but those ■■■■■■■ flags,he wasn’t the only one and I suppose it was a small price to pay as an employer when you had great drivers like this,it kept them happy and they got through the work we required of them without any difficulties, but Oh! those ■■■■■■■ flags they got straight up my ■■■■■■■ nose I can tell you !! Cheers Bewick.

Hi Bewick ,I know a lot of firms hated it ,but at the end of the day we looked after the trucks made them homely for our benefit that Scania looks really nice

I never had any flags but have had the same cuddly toy for over 12 years.

This was mine 22 years ago flags in the window of places id never even been too

My old caravanning pal Jim Goodwin had a bit of everything around and inside his cab, no flags in the windscreen though! His campervan was even worse! Son Anthony was a little more traditional. Photo courtesy of Flikr.

A couple of lads at Ballidon had a windsreen full of ‘tat’ though and it gave us great pleasure when we fitter’s had to rip it all down at test time! :smiling_imp:

This was my pride and joy, I took it to a show at Wembley Arena, I was gutted when they said you’ll have to take the trimmings down driver.
