I cant see the problem with employing eastern europeans at all, People say “they” come over here and steal “our” jobs, but the way I look at it, if it was round the other way Im sure we’d all be over there doing the same, most ive met have been decent lads only looking to make a wage. like the rest of us. Just my view

Totally agree.
But it’s a fact that migrant workers whatever their nationality , colour , creed or ■■■■■■ orientation, keep wages low. It’s simply supply & demand.

Don’t really know a lot about your company, but I’ve seen your trucks about and you seem to have a tidy fleet and I get the impression that you don’t have to advertise for drivers.
But would you really turn down a good driver just because he’s Polish?
I have tried a few in the past. The issue for me is the language barrier, when they are stood next to you it is easier to explain a problem. When they are a thousand miles away somewhere in Europe and there is a problem it is a nightmare as they normally only know basic English. The 2 that I took on cost me a fortune in accidents and mistakes, one missed the exit on the M25 late at night braked really hard and a foreign truck hit him from behind so hard the drivers seat of my truck come away from the mountings. Wrote the trailer off, the whole load was shot forward and had to be restacked. Put the other driver in hospital with quite serious injuries. Another Polish driver bought a load of apples all the way back from Italy, backed on the bay in Spalding and backed onto the bay too hard and 4 pallets fell out the back of the trailer. Another claim. For me more hassle than its worth when I have got a list of British drivers wanting EUROPEAN work.
For me it’s simple, Good kit, attracts good drivers, good drivers look after the kit and do the job properly. Which saves money. My dad (Ray) taught me 10 years ago when I started working for him to look after the drivers that look after you.

Could blame the company bosses that are paying the low wages, but then on the other hand, there’s more workers than jobs to they can pay what they like, they’ll always get drivers.

Never Said I blame them.
The point remains that wages are lower because they ( any migrant worker ) is here.
Allowing migrant workers to come in to take up jobs is nothing new. Jamaicans to drive buses in the 60s for example. As working class people we will always be affected by such action.
Blame the government ? Yes but the previous 1.
ABOUT 50% NORTHAMPTON, THEY WORK HARD BUT DO KEEP THE WAGES LOW.
