On a good run, no road closures and light traffic, my longest run is near enough 205 miles. All motorway and takes about 4 hours 15.
So, a question for all you trunkers, how long is yours?
Edit, might not be the best thread title!
In my case it was the majority varying from two return runs in a shift either Feltham to Bristol or Feltham to Kilworth.
Last of the long distance drivers.

To be fair around 400 miles + in a shift isnât exactly short haul work especially at 90 kmh max.
While arguably being a bit too far to be classed as a âshuntâ.

For me trunking has always meant a regular run to the same place every time, if you do one round trip a day or it takes multiple days to get there and back, itâs still a trunk.
If you do more than one round trip in a shift, then itâs a shunt.
I can agree with that definition of a shunt. But would anyone agree that shunts involve trailer swops or inter-depot work, as opposed to local deliveries/pick-ups, with a customer? Or have I got this terminology wrong again?
Most trunks involve trailer swaps and/or loading/tipping/transhipping at either end.Which leaves the question how does what is a single trunk run turn into a shunt if thereâs two of them needed to be done in a shift.

Colin_scottish:
People who trunk are just a glorified shunter thats all.
Or we could say that trampers are just relatively short haul drivers who have to sleep out in the truck a lot because their relatively short runs donât often get them back to base and home.

No there trampers who stay out so whats a short run then.

Would that be due to only having a short trunk?

I have to agree with Rikkiâs definition of a trunk.
I spent three happy years on TNT doing night trunks.
The trailer left at a given time to a given destination, regardless of load.
At the other end, there was always a trailer that had to be back at our place by the next morning, regardless of whether the driver had completed his deliveries/collections that day.
Very easy money doing straightforward drop-and-swop work on nights, no bosses and no arsey forkies to contend with, so there was nothing not to like.

Naughty
In the scheme of things I must confess my trunk is what one would class as very local deliveries only. Although I did get a few compliments for my multi drop abilities in my youth now I find my trunk envolves a lot of tight entrances to get the most out of it.
Dont think its the size of your trunk that matters more the length of time one can enjoy it. I must confess to suffering from trunk envy when stood around listening to other drivers describe their trunk.
Surely the main defining feature of a âtrunkâ is that it is between two depots or warehouses (usually within the same company or network), from where the goods are either stocked or transhipped for onward delivery to their final destination?
