How long have you had your class 1

November 1986, I was 22. By mid 1987 I was already an experienced continental driver :open_mouth: :open_mouth: Yeah, I was lucky

Since 1975 and I have had the US CDL A since 2002.

Cant find a job tho.

Surrey class 2 is better paid and no nights out.

2k down the drain.

Maybe you need to ā– ā– ā– ā–  up a tramping job for a while, to get experience and see where the work is?
I just googled ā€˜surrey hauliers’

thx for the idea.

Im starting new job next year. Water engineer. no more driving for some time for me.

Well that’s a definite 2k down the drain, literally.!!

Seems to me like there’s a lot on here that don’t drive anymore, lucky buggers.

Past first time on January 1994 in a Ford cargo (sleeper) [emoji16][emoji16] with a little 25-30ft flat trailer…

That’s me mate! I have a cushy 37.5 hrs job driving a van these days with max 7 - 8 drops… and do two HGV
days per month on the agency just to keep my hand in and top up my crap wages! Lol

Class 1 from 97 but had driven buses previously passing my PSV Class 1 ā€˜All Types’ in 81. Only drive hgv part time now or as relief as I have other interests.

I started driving artics in 1986, I was on a ā€œyoung driver’s schemeā€ at the company I worked for, however nearly three years into the ā€œschemeā€ a traffic copper on the M6 and the magistrates at Newcastle under Lyme took a dim view of it as it wasn’t an ā€œofficialā€ scheme and banned me from driving for a month and gave me a good telling off. I turned 21 in 1989 on a Sunday and passed my class one on the Wednesday, which wasn’t as good as it appears on paper as I had almost three years experience by then! The Traffic Commissioner requested my presence at an interview because of my disregard for procedures and I had to promise to be a good boy before he would allow me to have a provisional licence.

In 2008 at the age of 40 I took my class one again, this time in Canada. It was a bit different to the first test, instead of a Ford D series and a single axle 28ft trailer, I had a Kenworth T800 and a 53ft trailer, the result was the same though and I surrendered my British class one and was issued with my Canadian class one.

I had mine before the licence was invented…ha ha and got given my licences as they came about…will have to check the dates but i got the little red book…brown book…the black book…dont know what order till i check, but i`ve had over 53 years breaking my back with the poxy things…2 axles…3 axles…springs…air suspension…spread axles, 4 in lines…27ft single axles.to 15m tilts.to 33 ft primrose tandems…seen many changes in my times though…enjoyed most of them.

20 years and 23 days with my class 1.

You guys make me feel young

In 3 weeks I go back to university and feel old again. My HGV entitlement is older than most of my peers
