hi mate

you have to keep 28 days plus the current day bacicely mate you need to have 29 tachos with you if you get stopped

then return then to the transport office so there can keep them for one year

Would a PRIVATE horsebox have a transport office

dose he need to use a tachograph for a private 7.5 tonner not used for hire or reward

Surely if it’s a weekend event there’s going to be at least 24h between arriving on the Saturday and leaving on the Sunday though so there’s no problem getting a reduced weekly rest in. You just can’t do it 2 weekends in a row.

No-one has come uo with any definitive answers yet - is that because there is not any

It’s no hire or reward just for my girlfriend just i can’t find an answer like Rog says!

keithy:
It’s not hire or reward

According to VOSA, if she is competing and winning ANYTHING (even a rosette) then that is REWARD !!!

Lets go the easy way , tachographs have to be kept NOW for
TWO years so to be on the safe side store the disks in a safe
place, after the 28day period has elapased. keeping a record
weither it is required or not,can perhaps help, by any incidents
that may occour.

hi Rog

i posted a link above here was some info

The latest ruling was given to reader Miles Nicholson last month, and confirmed to H&H. It concerns the rest periods required by law for all drivers of large vehicles over 7.5tonnes (formerly HGV), whether private or professional – and is not only at odds with previous advice, but comes as a shock to UK equestrian organisations.

Since 2006, it has been mandatory for all large horseboxes to have a tachograph fitted and for drivers of such vehicles to keep records of driving time. Under this ruling (EC Regulation 561/2006), drivers are required to take weekly rest periods of either 24 or 45 hours (see article on legal requirements and restrictions for horsebox drivers).

But this is not just a rest from driving – the individual must have a rest from any work for the requisite number of hours if they are to drive their vehicle within the law.

so as you will see its as been answered and if as the underlined bit says that there work under EU regs that means the records have to be kept.
imo in the same way as normal HGV drivers and operators would

Not for the tacho regulations they don’t Pete, it’s still a year.
If the tacho is also being used to monitor the WTD then the records have to be retained for two years from the last day of the reference period, which in the case of a 26 week period means the first record of the period would have to be kept for 2.5 years. Good enough reason to use a different method of monitoring the WTD as you then don’t have to worry about keeping the records safe of such a long period.

delboytwo did a couple of posts before yours. As they are now subject to EU regs they surely have to abide by all of them, not just the bits relating to driving, breaks or rest, and that would include record keeping.

So to conclude so far -
Tacho is needed when driving
Weekly rest regulations must be observered
A seperate tacho disc must be filled in for every day in the week (sunday midnight to sunday midnight) in which the driver actaully used a tacho. Those cards must have the name, date, start & finish times on each one so VOSA can see the rest periods.
Cards must be kept for 28 days

What does not seem clear -

keithy:
but what do i do with them after that?

Is an ‘O’ licence required for a PRIVATE LGV

Is a National CPC holder required to run it

Been looking on the vosa site still confused!!!

he gives then to the vehicle owner or operater for safe keeping
just like any hgv driver would do

I just editted my last post with what I think we know so far - or not :exclamation: :exclamation:
