I’ve heard that HGV drivers get ‘‘concentrated on’’ at these speed awareness bs courses
They dont.
I speak from experience
They…
Didn’t with me either. I sat with three other HGV bad boys and the ‘teachers’ just droned on and on.
When asked a pertinent question, they clammed up and pointed out what a pleasant day it was regarding the weather.

same here…i never said a single word nor was asked a direct question the entire time from when i went in the door to when i left.
2 hours of quietly examining the insides of my eyelids, though i couldnt shout out the waffle of the 2 dudes waffling on and completely wasting their breath.

question 1.
can anyone tell me when the most likely chance of speeding would occur??
wifey 1.
when im hurrying home after work to get the tea made…
Now this is something I didn’t know…I was inquiring about speeding tickets if I got one when over visiting the old dear…and I was informed that in England and wales if I get stopped speed ing and cant supply a UK address I have to pay an immediate 100gbp deposit and if its worthy of court its a 300gbp or they will im pound the car. (ask the police q418). when did this come in ? it used to be a letter tae whoevers car I was driving asking for driver details then when finding out it is an over the pond licence holder nothing happened (allegedly of course) .meant to say this is for being stopped don’t know about speed cameras and letter in mail.

They came in in 2010 under the Financial Deposits and Securities Act.
It’s basically how the police deal with non UK drivers (from anywhere in the world)
Deposit paid on the spot by cash (GBP only) or Credit Card. Sum held for 28 days for driver to ask for court hearing if they want one.
After 28 days it becomes the fine payment.
If court request made its held until the hearing, if guilty then used for fines/court costs, if Not Guilty refunded with interest.

Got clocked doing 35 in a 30 in car this morning…so how long before I find out if I’m getting nicked?
Hold my hands up, my fault, fair cop, do your [zb] worst.
However in mitigation the limit there is soon to be upped to 40, (showing how potentially dangerous it is) so the Old Bill are taking their last drop of blood opportunity to exploit it.
…
On another note, plus the boy racers on the town square 2 mile away are left alone by the waste of skin local Police to carry on dealing their drugs to kids, simultaneouslly to their speed traps.
Don’t forget to let us know mate when you get the notice it has to be getting near now
Sure what’s the harm you will be able to work your 6 days to pay for the fine although it might mean not been able to subsidise your holidays that you could not afford in the first place
Good luck mate i hope you don’t hear anything because it would drive me mad having to do all that overtime just to pay for holidays and then have to give it to the state
thanks for the info. Traffic Rat ,guess I will stay I Scotland then when ower next week.

Make no mistake mate, you’ll be the first to know.
I’m loving this new found ‘‘Bromance’’ between us btw
, …your obsession with me is not weird at all, so don’t let anyone tell you any different bud !
I know what you mean though, and there lies the dilemna, do I carry on working my balls off at 70 hours a week (not getting any younger you know
) for a pittance, and scrimp and save for my next hol abroad, …or maybe go for the much cheaper caravan holiday in Morecambe option, and be able to pay my fine.
Decisions eh?
Thanks for thinking about me anyway, I’m genuinely touched.

look on the bright side.no uk licence, then no points…no matter what the fine is for a poxy speeding then its meaningless if you pay it.
ive had a few from the woodentops on the 75 and in n.i. who dont know any better and give you the ticket.
when you go to pay it,they realise your not handing in a uk licence to them so they cant accept payment.
a phone call so whoever has a modicum of brain matter in the relevant plod shop ( i think it needs to be inspector level before they stop writing with crayons),then you get the phone call telling you that your a lucky boy and to bin the ticket as they should have arrested you on the spot to go to court in the morning, blablabla.
if you choose to go to court and plead guilty, then you still dont get points though your told you get them lying in swansea for you should you ever get another uk licence…no sweat then…

Second that - it never came up - on arrival they just asked what car you drove and I told them.
Nothing to do with day job.

lol thought ye would know the scots way ,no chance o another uk licence …we have in my province merits and demerits …you start at zero and your yrly licence is $50 you go up to 15 merits and the yearly cost is $30 and #33% of insurance (only get insurance from Manitoba government ,no other companies ) but the otherway down -30 your licence costs iiirc aprox$1000 a year………funny enough overweight tickets don’t affect the merits

This never happened.
The officers would check and confirm your home address and licence details at the roadside before issuing a ticket.

Roadrat that is the problem with forums so much disinformation,or is the new saying fake news.sadly people will listen to what suits them best rather than what is true …and now I do not mean the poster

if it’s a hand held gun there’s normally a car down the road to pull the offenders over
I used to think this too but a bloke at work has since proved me wrong.
He went past a copper who was walking along the roadside, towards him, with the hand held speed gun down by his side.
Workmate then speeds up before going into 40 limit
, looks in his mirror to see copper now pointing speed gun at him.
Less than a week later he gets a NIP through the post and instructions on how to see the photographic evidence.
To be fair Johneboy the bloke at work took the ■■■■, didn’t behave himself with a copper ( a rare sight indeed on foot) in view, and the copper got him.
How many times have we, in the past when the roads were more open, been going like hell and seen a copper parked at the roadside, but what we all did was at least lift off the throttle to cut the noise down even if we didn’t actually brake…this showed the copper we had seen him and showed some respect for him… and it worked.
Wasn’t aware that handhelds worked at cars moving away from them, I was always under the impression it was held towards an oncoming car, the speed is then displayed by means of two beams being emitted a fraction of a second apart, the distance and time it takes for the beams to return is then decrypted into the speed the car is travelling.

Don’t see why they wouldn’t work both ways, the camera vans can check and photograph speeders going either way, its how they nab motorcyclists.
I had a chat once with a camera operator near my home of the time, as we were talking he was annoyed at a taxi driver who failed to spot his marked camera van as he went by (the intimation being a regular driver as against sunday type driver should have spotted the van purely in the interests of self preservation, fair point), so pinged him as he was going away from the van, this must have been 20 years ago at least.
