How long are you away in the truck for?

Used to go away for weeks at a time, months on a couple of occasions but gave that up when my children were born. Still out all week though and will probably start going away for longer periods soon now that the kids are nearly grown.

currently monday evening until friday lunchtime. formerly 9 to 12 weeks. if lucky, you’d spend the weekend in civilization (barcelona, paris madrid, stockholm) but only when waiting to be unloaded on monday or when empty. usually it’d be a hellhole like the f-b border near lille or similar. no way to stop short of ten hours from travemünde. antwerpen would’ve been nice for the weekend but you’d be looking for a new job come monday

Been living in the lorry full time for 7 years this year and I still love it.

How do you fill your time when your on weekly rest? I think having nothing to do over the weekend is what would drive me insane!

like i said mate, if you can get to a town or city to park up do. get out the cab and have a look round the area, my last weekend away involved me taking the train to Salzburg to see Mozarts house

I bet you was gutted when you realised he wasn’t in.

Then there are the blokes that just like being away for a month at a time and do just that, often driving within ten minutes of their house without stopping in for at least a night. I used to do that before my wife came over, no point sitting in an empty house when I could be down the road earning a few bucks, but it’ll send you doolally after a while, it’s like being a budgie in a cage

I know all about that. I spent my first 19 months in Canada living in my truck with only two nights spent away from the cab in that period. Its funny how you can get used to things, but I’d never want to go back to that. In my current job it always varies, I’ve been home for the last 3 weekends on the trot but when things work out differently I can be having time off mid-week for weeks or months on end and sometimes actual trips and time away from home are in excess of 3 weeks if the distance of the trip dictates.

Just got out of the truck and various hotels after 27 days.

I recently have been doing about 3 nights out a week, not always back to back, have the occasional 4 and the occasional 2. Suits me fine really, it breaks the week up quite nicely.

Snap!

When i was on general Euro work normally 3 weeks away , 3 days off .

Music Tours could be anything from a week to 6/7/8 weeks , depending on Tour …

On the F1 work ( Paddock Club ) go away 2 weeks before the 1st European race and get home for 2 week break in August , then away again until last race in Monza ( Sept )…

Now its as and when its required …

Plenty of wallmarts to park in to buy clean pants too. I just use the hotel laundry device myself.
