How i spent the weekend: a quick diary

so, fridays most people are normally heading for home, but after 3 weeks off i was about to head out again. my trailer was already loaded in the yard (other people were heading for antwerp for a saturday load up) so i headed off for dover. i didnt get out of the yard till 1pm though waiting for my paperwork/ fuel cards etc, and i was looking after a new driver so we were last to leave. unfortunatly this meant sitting in a massive queue on the m25 right from the a12 split where i joined! (stupid poxy tolls, carbon footprint left by that thing must be massive!) so, i decided to go m20 to dover as i prefer it to the m2/a2, i got to the docks, and wanting to eat i was hoping to sail with p&o. sadly everyone else had this idea and after sitting in their queue for ages i decided to risk seafrance, a friend in the yard said he used them rcently and it was great. i booked on straight away and was waiting 30 mins for a ferry. im guessing my mate was lieing about the service though as i headed for the restaurant, paid my 7 quid for the most disgusting slop i have ever had the misfortune of eating. i will never eat on there again, i would rather eat my own feet! so we got to calais, and did a full 4 hour drive and parked in a garage forcourt at sommesous (i think its called) services for the night as the parking was rammed full. it was 1 am, we decided to have a 9 hour break and crack on the next day. i was awoken at half 9 by a nice gendarme asking us to move off the forecourt and into the parking area “no driving today, holiday” ah, i have a permit for that! so off we set once the 9 hours were up, and onto macon for lunch where i met up with young joey (acceptme) to have our break (the other driver had turned off somewhere, turned round but didnt get that far so we were going to meet up further down the road. we were at macon about an hour and headed off again, we had decided to go via the frejus as it drops us in almost at turin. the overhead signs were saying no driving in italy until 23:00, so we stopped at the services before the frejus for a re group and a spot of tea. once we were altogether, we headed for the frejus. once we merged the other end we spotted the 2 generators parked up. we carried on down and into turin, parking up in the dustbowl parking area. we are sat here until next friday now so plenty of time for sightseeing!!
