How far

So back to dozy’s question.

How far did you get :grimacing:

I drive a remapped greedy Daf cf on a good day I get 6mpg at the pump, (I’ve got heavy feet)
I got 66km on the light at 44.5tonne driving like a ■■■■ so it depends

So if you don’t sit on the limiter all day with your heavy feet, that is ‘driving like a ■■■■’ ?

What driving style analogy would you use for only getting your 6mpg ?.. Just curious.

Using dozy’s own logic that it wasn’t his fault when he hit the parked van, how could it possibly be his fault if he runs out of fuel

 I’ve hit a parked van , not as far as I’m aware , I’m assuming your getting mixed up with a dot - com parking in my turning circle at a tesco store causing me too hit the overhang on the building  , and I didn’t and will not accept any responsibility for the irresponsible actions of a idiot van driver :unamused: :unamused: , clown should of parked in his designated ■■■■■■■■■■■■ , not dumped it in the middle of the yard and gone for a break , then I would have a had a full turning circle to turn in and not ended up hitting the building try to avoid him , and as for you should of waited for the van drivers return ( boss ) , are you prepared to accept responsibility for a shop full of empty shelves , no I didn’t think so . :unamused: :unamused:
As for running out , I didn’t ask for a tank to be removed from my truck ,so if I do run out its fairly obvious to me who’s to blame for it ,and it’s not me :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Doze mate, ffs don’t dig your own grave by opening up that can of worms again eh. :bulb:
And btw, if you do run out it IS YOU to blame… :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:
I do try and stick up for you on here sometimes doze, …but you don’t do yourself any favours bud.

Are you for real man… if you hit anything its your fault…as for your boss saying wait until he returns sounds to me like some good advice to me… anyone with a brain would have if they couldnt perform a manoeuvre ( you know those skills that your suppose to have )…as for running out of fuel then only a fool would…

Driving like a ■■■■ included trying not to accelerate UP hill etc not just below the limiter, to get back to yard using a hilly A road. And me getting 5.7-6mpg in this daily doesn’t mean I’m constantly using kickdown.

We get no fuel bonus, no telematics, no hassel and best of all I don’t pay the derv bill

Standard TGX Tank holds 450 ltrs/around 100 Gallons.
@ 3 km per ltr = around 1350km range.
@ 9 mpg= around 900 miles range.
Red light/warning comes on with around 100ltrs/20gallons left in the bottom, so I’ve usually got between 200-300 km/150-200 miles left in her (depends what weight I’m carrying)

Please note, for all you Calculator Warriors out there, figures are all approximate/underestimated, I wouldn’t let it go over 1350km or 900 miles (without dipping the tank [emoji6])

Driving for the Foreigners we were not allowed to re.fuel in UK without permission.
I became an expert in running it down to virtual last pint :unamused: Although I did have some arse clenching moments wondering if I had pushed my luck too far, especially on bridges or in tunnels.
The worst case was running up the second deck ramp on the Hull boat, the fuel ran down to back of tank and she petered out  I was about as popular as herpes with the dock staff (and the anti foreign knobs :unamused: ) I had to roll back and syphon some red out of my kooi on the back…so got away with it. :sunglasses: and ignored the abuse.

You really are a prize nob with such a comment, it’s not your truck so if they want to remove a tank for whatever purpose they can, it’s obviously done for a reason other than to test your patience or for you to play fuel games with,
So who’s fault is it then when the fuel light has come on and you choose to drive past a depot, and all of a sudden you hit traffic hence causing you to run out or you’ve got your maths wrong and just run out before next available fuel stop, the truck builder for not putting in a more efficient engine, the fitter for doing his job and removing the tank or the one who ordered the tank removal, my money would be on the steering wheel attendant that never steered his truck onto a fuel pump earlier.

I would imagine the moment the fuel light is activated will vary slightly even between vehicles of the exact same model. So if you did for whatever reason want some sort of accuracy you would need to work out how much fuel was left the moment the light come on. Two options spring to mind.
1: the moment the light comes on, reset the trip computer then work out how far you get and how many mpg you achieved until you run out. this will give you the info needed to work out how much fuel is still in when light comes on.
2: when the light comes on, stop, and then syphon / pump out all the fuel through the engine feed pipe, then measure what you have.

I have actually done (2) for my van, there a was 8.1 litres in it (hand book says 5) so theoretically at 55mpg this could give me up to 98 mile when light comes on. (possible 115 in warm weather with eco driving) The bravest I have been though is 81 mile. may be this summer I will go for the big 100 … lol

Put some jerry cans in the side locker…job done…

Even with a fairly accurate estimate of how much fuel is left in the tank, you’d still not really know how much of it is usable. The pump won’t draw from the very bottom of the tank, as it needs a gap for fuel to get into the pump. Then as already stated, fuel swilling around in the tank will cause the pump to lose suction.

If you’re lucky, it won’t wreck the pump. But if it was my repair bill, I wouldn’t be chancing it.

Only trouble with that TB is when the guvnor looks in his locker at the weekend, adds up 2+2 and comes up with 5. :bulb:

But a dab hand playing bingo.

Think your right Rob…i made it 5 as well  …dont understand why a boss would take off a tank and replace it with a locker unless for a very good reason…i had a boss who took off the tank, and replaced it with a large locker that held a full size fridge, a gas cooker on a slider, and plenty of storage left for the tins for camion stew etc…not forgetting the chair. that was a very good reason…but he did also fit a very large fuel tank as well to make up the difference.

Maybe they got wind of Dozy’s posts on here every time he leaves his truck In the hands of others when sick or on holiday.
Now he has a locker to keep all his stuff in and the other drivers will leave it alone.

haha dozy does make me laugh if nothing else its like the worlds worst trucker uk edition.
