How far

I’ve lost a diesel tank , took one off and replaced with a storage box ( why do they never consult the driver :unamused: ) , so it’s a pain in the ■■■ always needing fuel , so off on hol tomorrow so booted it down from Glasgow , couldn’t be assed to pull in for diesel , thought I’d be ok , but fuel light came up and no option but to push on as past last depot , so did 23 miles with light on , near bottom of red, anyone know exactly how far a scania will go once fuel light comes on for future ref , o/s tanks gone . Ta

On average you will need 25 litres per 50 miles .

It’s not an exact science dozy, nobody can give you a number. All depends on how you drive the truck, if you’re fully loaded or empty etc etc I’d use what happened to you as a rough bench mark for the future. 23 miles.

I don’t know if lorries fuel warnings are the same as cars. But in my car you get 2 warnings a constant red light, then after a few more miles it starts flashing. So maybe trucks are the same soon as it starts flashing you’re in serious bother.

Knowing you may breakdown because you don’t have enough fuel could possibly land you in a lot of bother with your employer. Driving without due care etc.

The scania light comes on between 7-10%, I think it takes the reading from the main tank (ie. the one they’ve not nicked) so you’d actually be 14-20% (I doubt they’ve recalibrated it) but assuming it was 300 each side you’re probably about 42-60 litres in there when it came on, that’s if everything is working correctly at least.

It’d still be 7-10% as the other capacity from the second tank has also been lost so you can’t double the estimate as there’s nothing there to double it with.

manchester to other side of Barcelona Sitges :grimacing:

If you look in the storage locker there’s a chain you’ll go miles with that :grimacing:

My logic is if it reads from the main tank as they both level equally (or it did when I had twin tanks) the total capacity is halved but the float triggers the light at the same time only there’s no other tank to top it up. Capacity halved with the gauge uncalibrated for the tank removal = estimate doubled. Unless it reads from both and mashes it into one then that’s easy to detect as when it’s brimmed the fuel tank will show about half even when it’s full.

If he pulls it, will it flush the crap away??

To be fair, I don’t think he’ll need to look too far…

Seriously though, the anti syphon things are a pain in the arse, because you can’t dip a brush handle into your tank for a quick check on fuel level.

Why risk it…hourly paid .
Stop and refill before you get another blot on your record or the big elbow out the gate.
Have some sense Dozy !

Hhhm, running the fuel gauntlet.

Just keep driving until you run out, then atleast youll know for next time.

I quite like playing fuel light lottery, adds spice to an otherwise boring and mundane day.

Guaranteed smile when Dozy makes a posting, bless him

Using dozy’s own logic that it wasn’t his fault when he hit the parked van, how could it possibly be his fault if he runs out of fuel

 I’ve hit a parked van , not as far as I’m aware , I’m assuming your getting mixed up with a dot - com parking in my turning circle at a tesco store causing me too hit the overhang on the building  , and I didn’t and will not accept any responsibility for the irresponsible actions of a idiot van driver :unamused: :unamused: , clown should of parked in his designated ■■■■■■■■■■■■ , not dumped it in the middle of the yard and gone for a break , then I would have a had a full turning circle to turn in and not ended up hitting the building try to avoid him , and as for you should of waited for the van drivers return ( boss ) , are you prepared to accept responsibility for a shop full of empty shelves , no I didn’t think so . :unamused: :unamused:
As for running out , I didn’t ask for a tank to be removed from my truck ,so if I do run out its fairly obvious to me who’s to blame for it ,and it’s not me :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Back up a second there Dozy - your telling us that you saw this van in YOUR turning circle (so you knew it was there and that you couldn’t turn your lorry in the circle ) but you drove on and the resulting chaos and damage wasn’t your fault .
Come on now I’ve done Tesco work (had my LIDL bag ,stone in my boot and all that ) in your induction your told if any of the dot com stuff isnt in its place not to attempt turning until the yard is sorted out .Now if your on by the hour whats the hurry ? Correct procedure would be to tell the back door staff to get it sorted while you sit in the lorry until they do .
