I was sent from Lenham Kent to St Sever which is near Mont de Marsan sth of france from Calais on my sat nav it was 1100kms.not worried paid by the kms
I drove from Devon to Teeside empty to pick up a load of crisps for South Wales
I have driven from Piraeus in Greece to Augsburg in Germany overland, probably 2000km.
Sometimes on the tankers we would regularly do 1000km if the previous loads were incompatible.

i thought it sounded like a place near Spalding.
tbilisi, georgia to izmir, turkey, around 2oookm
Empty from Gibraltar or Malaga to Valencia or Zarragoza, nearly use a full card up.To pick up onions or tiles from Onda. This is quite common.
I was sent from Estoril in Portugal to Barcelona to pick up a load, about 1260km, but just before I got there the load was cancelled, but there was another load in Vienna, so I had to go there, another 1800 km, it is not unusual for us to travel many miles for reloads, but there are many removals company’s who don’t even bother with back loads and come home empty from all points in Europe.
I know all this empty running goes on but i would have thought in this day and age that would be kept to a minimum
I tipped in Trafford park once and ran empty to Foligno (Perugia, Italy), to load office furniture once. We used to run empty to Italy quite a bit in August time, but I think that was the furthest for me. LKW Walter paid by the mile, so great!

it looks quite similar to spalding, but is a bit more easterly than that
When I was on for Astran, after tipping in Doha I was sent back to Rotterdam to load pipes for Doha, The rate for running back empty was the same as the rate that I used to get for loading in Romania, so I saved all round… Doha - Rotterdam 8000kms

Can’t get near to that, but often around Christmas time we used to run out empty to Valencia for citrus fruit, this was normally to squeeze in a trip between Xmas and New Year.
Ross.
kerwyn, the reasons for running back empty
are many, tankers because they may be designated
for one product only or no cleaning facilities or
the product is one they will not clean, also the rates are not good enough, Many firms will rather have the vehicle back asap, so they can take the next load out, instead of takeing
say a extra day to unload due to problems at the customer, with the back load, as for distance , Budapest(H)
Klevve (D), or ceserta-maderno (I), to vlissingen (NL); ALSO
Helsinki (FINN) to Marl(D); these are some of the places ,
we do a lot of empty running, we have sent trucks to moscow empty, back from finland empty, when i did a job for redburns last year there was 5 trucks empty going to kharkov in ukraine with us loaded ones, and 3 or 4 heading straight to moscow empty
jj72, you win the prize when you show me some pictures!

hello ross.
im sitting at the belg lux border.on my way to italy.
anyway.
my furthest was from tipping in valencia area and reloading in cuneo italy.
not as far as doah, but still a pain in the nuts.
Can’t beat most of you but I often used to run empty the 500 odd kms from Katherine NT to Wyndham WA to fetch the cows and, back in Europe, when on for Gauthier we never loaded back from England. The longest I suppose was Manchester to Vervins for the biccies, around 690 kms I think.
In a way this is a good sign. It means an unwillingness to accept less than worthwhile rates, the old ‘return load rate’ syndrome, which in some small way helps to keep forwarders more realistic.
I have done Manchester to Ravensburg in southern Germany a couple of times.
well i when from vigo to taranto empty with a low loader to collect wind turbines blades and then when i arrived was told i should had collect the other ones first from donegal first so i rang to denmark and the transport manager had not read the e mail right so he told me to got empty to donegal to load but to find out i couidnt load the blades due to the crane dropping them and they were waiting for the insurance company to come and look after 3 day vest the wind turbines company told me to go back to southern itlay to load and leave the broken one their 9724kms that was a normal trip some time the transport manager dont work for use any more
