How Do You Meet The Average 48 Hr Week

So how do you find the best way to stay on target without compromising your earnings■■?

I work a maximum 43 hour week. Never got close so far…

Do as little as possible :grimacing:

I average around a 63 hour week (in the current reference period) however my WTD average is 41 hours for the same. As well as breaks, there’s a lot of POA in there which brings the average right down. It depends on the nature of your job though as to how much POA you can use. I do a lot of sitting about.

I take a lot of breaks but I have a lot of driving hours to battle

I dont know of any drivers who keep tabs on this but many companies do

I think the reason is that the authorities do not and cannot check this at the roadside so if they really wanted to then they would need to visit the company for the records - I have not heard of this happening yet since it started over 5 years ago

I’m over on it,doing shop deliveries so most days I’m doing 13 hrs and getting in a 45 and a 30 so work is 11 hr 45,even on a10 hr day I’m just getting in a45 ,so 9 hr 15,it’s just drive, other work, you just don’t get break, poa ,unless you have too, they came to me a while ago about it,telling me I was getting farther and farther over,as I said you’ll have to get me on work where I can sit on a bay for a few hours, but now there is none,so were now down to tipping whilst on break(they didn’t say that),or just carry on as we are,if you were doing one lot of shops you’d be ok as it would be about a 6/7/8 hr day and you’d stay within the 48hrs but now there doubling up the runs, putting more shops etc on the job you’re just going to go over it,asked driver trainer about it,he just said you’ll have to have time off unpaid. :unamused:

so do you think they’d send you home on Thursday after nine hours :open_mouth: ■■? Just hammer POA! :unamused: simples! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

So when you get pulled in by the ministry with your little URBAN trailer on,they check your tacho which is full of break/poa they won’t twigg  there not stupid, they know by the tri what you’ve been doing(shop deliveries),which is self tip so if you’ve got it on break/poa at every opertunity they know you’ve not been on the correct mode.

Cheat!!
I book as much POA as possible.

I dont pay any attention to it, if i told my boss i need to average an 48hour week theres a good chance i’d get sacked.

You shouldn’t need to tell your boss.

I do a 4 on, 4 off shift, and some of you have seen a tacho print out of mine posted on here (look for the time travel thread). Safe to say, even if i did a 6 on, 2 off I wouldn’t get anywhere close

I keep a “balance” in a small pocket diary.

If i do 51 hours on one week, i know I’m 3 hours over so i will then pull that back each week by doing 47 hours for 3 weeks thus giving me back those 3 hours I’ve gone over.

A lot of drivers out our place like to do it this way, otherwise when we get to the end of the ref period and we are 8-10 hours or w.e over we are told to take a day off without pay. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Can we assume that the company you work for is strict on this issue ?

Being a glass half full kind of guy I wouldn’t look at it as a day off without pay, I’d figure that I’d already been paid for it previously when I worked over my hours.

Armed with that knowledge I would then head off to Wetherspoons and attempt to drink my bodyweight in tat lager!
