How do you get used to driving in London FFS?

As someone else mentioned, the yellow box junctions can be a difficult one.

Waiting for a gap long enough beyond the box to get your truck into, but it keeps getting filled up by cars passing you in lane 2. Then the lights go red & your back at square one again.

Many have cameras on them.

How to win, legally■■?

answers on a post card please.

block lane 2

It’s easy, just adopt the attitude of ‘after me you’re first’ & take no prisoners, use your indicators as an instruction rather than a request & have one hand hovering over the horn & the other making the clenched fist wave & you’ll be fine :smiling_imp:

i don’t think anyone ever like driving in london. its a case of survival of the fittest so you can only give way to bigger trucks. drive aggressively but watch for cyclists and motor bikes undertaking you and cutting across your front.
the most important thing though is make sure you have enough time or know somewhere to park.

love drivin in the city!always have done for the last ten years!! love the challenge!! like previously mentioned, fist and middle finger always at the ready!!  watch out for them dodgy bus drivers though who think they own the road!! had many a conflict with them ba@@ard@!! pulling out when they want to and all that!!

Great subject!!

I like doing London, and I make sure I like it by sorting a few things first:

I try to zero the driving time at or before the N or S Circular.
I call the office re. Congestion Charge.
I avoid all bus lanes regardless of signage.
I treat Yellow boxes as danger zones.
I straddle two lanes more often than necessary.
Zero aggression.

Then I relax and go, I let everybody in, I pull back for as many buses as I can.
I become mr niceguy for a couple of hours.
I smile, laugh, and enjoy the views (which I love)

Works for me…

Nice!! very chilled out and relaxed attitude doorman, Thats the one fella!!

As the person who started this thread it’s been brilliant reading all the advice about being ‘aggresive’ and not taking any crap from others.

Anyway I’ve got to go back again to-morrow to Threadneedle Street which from what I gather is right in the thick of it !!! :open_mouth:

Anyway after all the good advice on here I shall rise to the challenge & be very chilled about it.
See ya there folks

Driving in London ■■? Piece of pi$$

Threadneedle st EC2, What you driving mate? You’ll be fine fella! just be relaxed and aggresive when need be!!

are delivering some cash to the bank of england? Right in the center is easier than the outskirts.

Driving M.A.N 26 tonner. Delivery slot at 2pm to a building site. Think it’s Threadneedle Street or may be changed to a building site at London Wall, which I think is in the same area.

As it happens, i’m in EC2V Russian Row tomorrow morning at 0730!

Bed time now…

i used to do i regular drop to a building site behind st barts.
Always a pleasure, never a chore! Have fun

Threadneedle st? Hmmm. Isn’t that where the stock exchange began?

The City is not too bad as it doesn’t get the same volume of traffic, as other parts. It starts to get sticky when you get into the one ways around Soho.

dont look at taxi drivers…if you look…they`ll pull out…if your looking the other way, they wont…the rest of it is easy…

Dont go into the city now but when i used to,i would:
1make myself as BIG as possible
2white lines are designed to be driven over, straddle, hog and use the size of your vehicle to influence other road users.Otherwise they wont give you the space and respect(they dont say that in your test but this is London and the
real world) as said before give an inch and London traffic will take it
3Go into the smoke with the attitude that you will get cut up.
4KEEP CALM

good point indeed. I recently went in. Not used to it. Had over an hour left at the M25/M4 junction, thought plenty to get to Battersea.

4 hrs 53 minutes total

However, there was a broken down artic nr Wandsworth causing a big tail back, so managed to circumnavigate our in house company infringement points scheme

its crazy!! you can fly to spain and be there quicker than drriving from the M25 to central london!!!

I’ve done most of my driving in London so I’m used to it and the big plus is I know it very well now. It’s murder though for anyone not familiar with it.
