Should be easy they are always harpping on about tired drivers ect, 15 hour spread thats two days for a council worker, normal people are on 37 ,hour weeks now,I think we have gone back over, trucks are far better but the hours are a joke,
Quite happy with the hours personally, only thing is i’d like abit more than 45 hours off a fortnight because with this rule you can stills do a good few hours every saturday if you start early.
Get rid of tin pot agencies who are just out to screw the driver over.
When the recession ends and the DCPC has got rid of all of the chaff, we will be on an absoulute mint.

But you can do something about that!

Absolutely.
All we need to do is get rid of those who drive for four of five hours a day with a magnet attached to the gearbox, and make up their wages in ill-fated attempts to smuggle tobacco, and then we will be on a decent screw.
No offence to anyone, obviously.
Go to sleep and DREAM?
Won’t happen. Too many are happy with the ‘live in a lorry so I’m cool’ work ethic.
In all honesty, unless the hourly wage went up substantially, working 37.5 hours a week most drivers couldn’t afford to live. £7.20/hr say, multiplied by 37.5 is… £270/week less taxes etc…£200 a week sound OK■■? The hourly rate is shocking for many and sadly, a lot of drivers are happy to tolerate it…

Correct! They won’t pay us £25 an hour so…DREAM
Reduce your hours, and be more fussy what work you pick up.

Thats the only way,if nobody goes for the £6.50 per hour jobs the money has got to go up or the work don’t get done.
Yup, good old fashioned supply & demand.
I think the main reason people succumb to poor pay, is because they’ve got large debt interest payments to service.
Thus, a high level of personal debt means that workers across the board will work for less because they’re “more desperate for anything they can get”, lest the car or TV be re-possessed or whatever. The contribution therefore made by debt interest payers to the (downward) standard of living of OTHER drivers is going to be similar to the drain on society made by the over-claiming of benefits, and yet strangely, only the latter are considered “scumbags”, with debt repayments seen as some kind of “honourable profession”.
They’re all cuthbert cringeworthy gits in my book!

Of course it will get done, by an agency driver on £9 an hour.
Then join the agency paying the £9 it’s still costing the company £12 or double what they wanted to pay.
It won’t happen for as long as drivers are stupid enough to have the opinion that it is ACCEPTABLE and REASONABLE to work 15hr spread overs and max weekly hours, (which is bad enough in itself) for a LIVING wage (if lucky enough) not a GOOD wage… as they regularly do on here

This ^^^^^
And if the agency driver also refused to work how would the job get done? If ALL drivers stuck to a policy of refusing to work for less than £10/hour then it would be paid…
…But they won’t 'cos most drivers have no balls.(cue all the BS excuses why drivers work for peanuts).
how do we get hours down wages up?
simple, go get a job that isn’t driving a truck.
the trouble is that driving a truck is offering the best package available, to people that drive trucks, other wise they wouldn’t be driving trucks

Not in my case mate, I certainly don’t drive trucks BECAUSE of the best avaiable package, I drive them because I know nowt else (after having driven them long enough to remember when a much better financial incentive was on offer), and you’re wrong it aint “simple” to find something else in said case, what use is being able to say… reverse an artic first time in a near hand impossible space, to qualify for an office job for example, so I’m stuck with it, so speak for yourself.
