Same applies to forkies, as well as truck drivers. A telehandler on a rough site is more awkward than a small forklift on a smooth level surface, sure, but if the FLT driver can’t do it right…

I guess the problem is the boards slide around and slip under each other? If using a telehandler, maybe they could tap them to the side slightly then very gently just get under the pallet and drag it backwards?
Suspect its more the telehandler driver is independent of the contractor using these and couldnt be arsed with taking the time to do it in a fiddly way. They usually seem to be seriously in demand.
Better loading trick might be to put a sheet if plyboard between each set both side and back which would stop any pallet to pallet movement. But thats upto the sender to sort.

My point was a proper telehandler driver would manage without a sideshift, as Trev explained. May be more time consuming, but there you go.
Edit. Strap around pallet block and drag it out a few inches before lifting.

You need a proper Forkie and a decent FLT to do the job properly.
NOT the job for some ponceabout with a gas truck with his forks practically touching in the middle… ![]()
Grab a strap,wrap it round the pallet itself(the wooden thing at the bottom) ,other end attached to the forks and drag it away from the one next to it then bobs your uncle drama over!
Looking at the first pic, why have they started unloading from the front?
Start from the back, steer forklift right so pallet moves left and out you go.

Fair enough to me. If the customer can’t unload it without damaging it because it’s not wrapped adequately then refuse it and they can send it again with more protection on. We are “just” the drivers though. If thy don’t want it then take it back. No skin off our nose.

The customer can’t offload because they have inadequate equipment or indequately trained FLT driver I’d say. It was loaded and arrived intact after all.
And you’re strictly correct it isn’t the truck driver’s fault, but a wee bit of effort and co-operation and the job could be done and the truck goes off to next job.

You can move a pallet sideways with a telehandler, just reverse back with whichever steering lock you need, and extend the boom as you do so. It takes a bit of practice but it can be done.

it would be a good argument with the vosa cabbage when your getting done for an insecure load as you could show it couldent be moved with a telehandler so theres not much chance of it going anywhere soon??
I’m sure it can be done. They are saying they can’t and don’t want to take a load off and then pay for it but its all damaged and useless. As a driver I really wouldn’t have the slightest bit of concern, get notes signed, and let the various offices through the chain sort it out and see where they want me to drive the load to. As that my job.

Some of them are as well coordinated as the late Professor Hawkins, and can’t do more than one thing at once. I’ve had others say " if you’re so smart , you do it"
Being a well known smart arse, I can never resist, and just have to accept the challenge,then, having successfully done the deed, drive off, leaving them speechless with awe at my powers. (Happens to me almost every day in one way or another)
The correct answer to this and every other similar scenario is……
“No problem Guv, just sign my paperwork as refused and ill be on my way. Have a nice day sir!”
Then simply engage forward gear and have a nice leisurely drive home knowing you have had an easy day.
I dont get the drama queens that say the forkie should do this, that or that. We DRIVE, They unload. Let the bosses sort it out as we have enough on our plates to deal with as it is.

To be fair, I’ve done the same to another driver when I was unloading him. “Good luck getting that one out mate”…he said, looking at a pallet wedged behind a support bar on his trailer. “No worries” I replied as I backed up with lock on, extending the boom, the pallet shifting sideways by about 10", took it off the trailer and just winked at him and drove off. I lost all my cool points though when I withdrew from under the pallet and ripped off one of the corner blocks with one of the tines.

I got refused at JCB Foston other day, horrible snotty cow in the warehouse (East European, maybe I didn’t get her “humour”) telling me I’m another “stupid driver” that can’t make delivery times (3pm cut off, i pulled in 1520)
I don’t get angry at this, I smile and get a refusal signature, return to my cab and ring in.
9 times out of ten I’m back in to see jobsworth warehouse personnel with a huge dose of “now then where were we” look on my face when my gaffer has threatened his client with taking his stuff back to our yard and charging storage
Now this cow didn’t like it so refused to sign my paperwork until she had checked every item over the 10 or so pallets, unfortunately for her I had a reload to get back home for and was under instruction to leave without paperwork if they were being awkward.
