I’m a long time lurker (maybe not the best turn of phrase for the topic!!!), but I had to come and join in this one.
I saw the subject title and thought ‘oh here we go again’, but you’ve really surprised me, where’s the torrent of abuse?

I’m gay, I’m ‘out’, but I don’t go broadcasting it to the world (just internet forums being read all over the world :exclamation: ) it doesn’t affect the way I work, so why do I need to go around telling everyone, I don’t often get people telling me they’re straight.

You’d never guess, we’re not all the camp, limp wristed screaming queens you generally see on telly - I’m the complete antithesis of what you’d expect, I’m an ex army, long haired metalhead! I’m not a ‘gay man’, I’m a person who happens to be gay, it’s not something that defines me.
I’ve never cottaged (toilets), cruised (parks), picked someone up on the internet, although I did meet my boyfriend in a gay pub - 8 years ago (another stereotype out of the window). I haven’t been in one since, the ‘scene’ isn’t for me, I was just having a hard time coming out to myself (I didn’t want to believe it, I thought being gay was ‘wrong’) and having others around really helped.

I would put money on the fact that you’ve met several (unless you’ve spent your entire life in a cave). If there weren’t lots of gay truckers, there wouldn’t be so many rent boys in the truckstops :open_mouth: - take a closer look…

It’s not a choice, disease, mental illness or any of the other things that people come out with - personally I think of it as mother nature’s take on population control :laughing:

Teaching it in school? If it saves someone the crap I went through I’m all for it, it’s not going to make kids gay, if you’re straight you’re straight, but for the gay ones to actually have an understanding of what’s going on in their heads? What’s worse, a kid knowing and understanding what they are, or a confused married man with kids coming out in later life?

Nice to see other gay guys on here, I have to admit I was surprised at that one, it takes some bloody big balls to come out to your peers, no matter how many times you’ve done it.

And just a question for the straights - why is it that gay women are so much more acceptable? (I think we already know the answer to that one…) Trust me, if she really is a lesbian you ain’t getting any!

But it is :exclamation: you get queer sheep, queer deer, and even queer horses, i know someone who used to work at a stud farm and remember them saying once ‘you would be supprised how many top ‘stud’ horses are gay’ :open_mouth: EG: not being able to perform in the field, and artifical insemination being the ‘only way’ to go.

I’m not, but I’m not bothered either way as I’m sure of my ■■■■■■ orientation. I remember years ago cracking on to a couple over the CB, they were a good laugh as I recall, they absolutely slaughtered the on air bigots. Live and let live is my motto.

From what I understand about transgenders, it’s the physical appearance that’s ‘wrong’, the brain is the opposite ■■■ to the body, so the ■■■ change is about resetting the body to what it should be. It’s not ‘changing ■■■’, it’s making the body reflect the correct ■■■.

When I came out in the army they couldn’t handle it until I told them they were ugly [zb]'s and I wouldn’t touch them with someone elses. Most were OK after that, still lots of ‘banter’, but it was the army after all. There were some who just couldn’t take it though, and I really did wonder about some of them.

The world has enough trouble with evil people who enjoy causing pain and harm to people, and you want to shoot someone who in the privacy of their own bedroom wants to sleep with a willing partner of the same ■■■. If your happy with your own ■■■■■■■■■ why should you worry? Lesbian, Gay or Space Alien, who gives a ####, if they do you no harm then let them be. I’d sooner work next to a 1000 gays than alongside a Huntley or Hindley. Looks like facist minority are represented. (I’m not a fan of horse riders either).

Opinions are all very well when they are subjects of knowlege and or education, in the hands of the moronic minority (“I’m not racist, some of my best mates are [zb]s”, et al) brigade, they are down right offensive and in some instances dangerous.
It always surprises me that said people are not still banging rocks together, far less being able to use the “box with letters on it” in front of them.

Just shows a lack of understanding, they don’t choose it, it chooses them and from what i hear, is an extremely difficult & emotive issue to deal with. Basically they know (usually for a long time) that they are trapped in the wrong ■■■ body.

Remember this happens both ways, not ony male to female.
