Home is a layby on the a9

but he does look like Harry Monk    …I,m sure someone could donate a 2nd hand water pump for the car .Then a 12 volt nightheater would help him out no end…As a previous garage owner i’m sure someone would employ him and get him back o his feet ,he must have a wealth of knowledge … I’m suprised he hasn’t been charged for no roadtax or insurance knowing our lot …

i’m told he used too own a petrol station, dunno what a water pump for a merc would cost but is it only the water pump that is wrong, it would prob need new battery, brakes, tyres, would be better buying a cheap generator n buying one of them halogen heaters

Dave the Renegade:
But then he has to haul it and cut it. He’s 68 years old and struggling. Surely the authorities could find him an old folks bungalow.

Iam pretty sure help is there, Salvation Army, Samaritans, all regions have food banks and independent homeless charities.

Some folks just don’t ask for help.

Some folks in similar situations commit crimes to have a spell at Her Majesty’s Pleasure. To get a roof other their head.

A quid each to a paypal account for the guy to get through the winter?

I would

Gives us all that warm fuzzy feeling inside…like a single malt

You need a recognised address to claim most benefits.

There are rough sleepers everywhere who have fallen through the cracks between the planks of the welfare state.

Some have got there through drugs and drink, others were got by drugs and drink afterwards.

A large proportion of homeless rough sleepers are ex forces.

I used to cycle to work down Barton St in Gloucester every morning in the late 1980s.
There was an old chap who slept out every night on the pavement opposite the police station. He was always sitting up in his sleeping bag and drinking a big mug of police tea when I rode past.

The story was he’d been a prisoner of the Japanese in WW2 and kept in a ‘cell’ made out of sheets of galvanised iron that was so small he couldn’t move. He couldn’t bear to be indoors after that so he lived on the pavement where the police could keep an eye on him.

Every one of the poor sods sleeping out has a story. Some are there because of their own stupidity or selfishness, and some are not.

few years back, there was an old boy living just behind the tescos at ipswich, at the a14/a12 split.
lived there with his dog,in abit of a camp he’d made in the trees beyond the load in bay.
he never spoke, i don’ know his story, but when i nipped in to tesco to do my shopping, (when doing boxes out of felixstowe) i used to get him a few pork pies and bits, and a couple of tins of dog food for the mutt
not been that way for a while, so not sure if they are still around?

Being ex forces i’m lucky that I have a house and job and went straight in to it from the forces …But it is so sad hat people who have given so much are abandoned…I can’t understand why the government can through money at people who have never worked a day in their lives and breed like rabbits ,but when you have contributed to society be it forces or not you are abandoned

Don’t feel sorry for him, it’s a choice he’s made and he’s probably more free than most of you lot trapped in a brainwashed society of false direction and materialistic necessities.

You are probably correct…as there is no mention of him asking for or being refused assistance …which blows my other theories in to touch…cheers :astonished: :astonished: :astonished:

A brave and straight to the point post.
Which I strongly believe is true.

It’s been mentioned you need an address to receive benefits, yes that might be true.
But you can get help without an address through other agencies if you ask.

Good point
Though as a human to human a bag of goodies is always gratefully received

I don’t mean to offend anyone with my post.
I just think most people live the way they do by choice.

Most motorists driving along there backwards and forwards seeing him every day might think he’s crazy, but that bloke might think they are the ones who are crazy for driving backwards and forwards on that same road every day?? There is no right or wrong way in my opinion.

It probably won’t be long before the cops do him for no tax or insurance, or vehicle in an unroad worthy condition

Jeff…

Harry Monk:
He looks a bit like me, don’t you think?

Only on here Harry, only on here!

This has just reminded me of a guy who had this sort of situation In Telford. He lived in his 12 plate volkswagon passat estate which was attached to a small box trailer with hippy spray painting all over it. In that trailer he had a brand new Ducati 848 evo! :open_mouth:

Anyone see him? He was in in the lay-bys around Telford for at least 5 months.

He was in a layby on the quiet backroad between Sawbridgeworth and Much Hadham Hertfordshire earlier this summer. He was there for several weeks, I wondered why he was there and used to be dozing in the front seats with just a pair of shorts on. One day the local Police were with him and the bike was out of the trailer, next day he had gone. a long way from Telford I know, but sounds like the same bloke.

Is the old bloke with the gammy leg still about the Fleece at Carlisle,he sleeps next to the fuel pumps, dunno how he gets a wink of sleep, that place is busy 24/7

Yes that sounds like him! We all thought he’d had a barny with his misses and was roughing it with his toys  wish I’d spoke to him now, I bet he has an interesting story to tell

There’s a bloke who lives in a sort of plywood and cardboard box under the Westway flyover on the A4 in West London and he’s been there years. There’s no need for him to be there, Social Services would find him somewhere to live, he just wants to.

As to the bloke in the story, he’s pretty much just doing what we do all week anyway, living in a steel and glass box. I’m sure it’s a freely made choice.
