Hobbies & the like

Simply to appease my curiosity I am curious as to hobbies and interests of my fellow drivers?

I do a bit of paragliding when I get the chance, also a bit of cycling to try to keep the weight down.

Well I’m a keen golfer and have been playing now for 34 yrs and I started at 13 yrs old, I try and play at least twice a week and quite often play 3 or even 4 times but i’m lucky that I get quite a bit of time off and also my hobby keeps me fit.

i shoot at clouds …i think i`m supposed to shoot at the little disc things that go whizzing past tho

riding my now vintage 1995 fireblade
hill walking with my dog
i love jumping out of perfectly good aeroplanes too
i love my new to me audi A3 — it’s just so sweet for 1999 plate (£750 - total bargain)
other than this i love my totally sorted and customised telehandler

Restoring old waggons, had 22 at one time , driving / helping a mate of mine with his traction engine, finishing off / sailing my narrow boat ( ready for moving on to permantly ) generaly helping various mates with engineering /rebuilding probs , good food, beer and craich with like minded folk.

I have a 1948 Morris 10 and keep her in good fettle. Me and the wife go to shows in the summer and have been lucky enough to win quite a few events. I do a bit of fishing and tried my hand at golf but I invented a new game called f----k it so I gave up on that.

Motorbikes - have a 1990 VFR750 which looks tatty but goes well and a 1986 CB650 Custom which used to go but needs restored. Occasional bouts of cycling, anything to do with motorsport - competing, marshalling, organising or just watching (esp F1 and rallying). Exercise consists mostly of walking the dog about 3 miles a day. I used to fly light aircraft, got bored after a while and i don’t have the money now, but I’d love to do some gliding. I read a lot, not a massive telly watcher but I love books.

All depends on time available!

Learning to play bass guitar - been trying to learn for the last 5 years or so, goes in fits & starts, but can knock out a few basic tunes.

Like astronomy & sciency type of things, but again, getting a clear dark sky to coincide with some time off when I’m awake is pretty hard!

Also love reading, and quite happy with my noise stuck in a book, or more often these days, my kindle.

Finally, and most importantly, spending time playing about with the kids & missus.

Dont you have to be on it permanently when sailing?

I like; walking, antiques, laughing with friends, nice meals, restoring things that didnt cost much and making them good again, and loads more …  oh and driving about the place.

Plenty to be getting on with then!

Yep ive had alsorts of weird machines myself and the father in law ( sadly no longer with us ) amassed all manner of things , he used to come in the workshop and say " what do you think ? " that was usualy the sign to fire up the Volvo wrecker ( another purchase ) and head off somewhere to pick up another basketcase , or trade plates and drive it home. Several moters have ended back in preservation ,some even back to their original owners. One C series ERF ( paid £500 for it ) i drove 150ml home and because a month later we needed a moter for full time work spent £300 putting it through its MOT and ended up running it for the next 4yrs and it gave us very little trouble until we retired it in 2008. The old boy who was still working and driving into his 70,s despite being diabetic for 40yrs was taken on his final journey on one of the moters we saved ( we still have this moter ) so yes always busy.
