Mike. Don’t worry about the settlement it takes ages. Bloke I worked with injured at work went to the union. The company admitted liability so no problem. The company /insurance company just wanted to hang on for as. They could. They paid out /agreed on the court date.
Just get your solicitor to push for a settlement.
Sorry to hear about your woes Mike. Try and think of the positives, that being your injuries weren’t worse, and you got the money for the bike. I hope you can get a decent settlement, but you may have a long wait. I waited two years for the case to be finalised on my accident. Cheers from a fellow rider (V-Strom)
am i correct in thinking that the dude that comes out of the van was more interested in filming you that actually seeing if you were ok?
did the other bloke attend to your needs etc after he’d finished filming you rolling around in agony…■■■■■■
I had the same when a myopic nobber pulled out of a side road in his Granada. Straight in the side. He was banged to rights. Bright green bike, headlamp on dip, daylight.Luckily I’d paid for legal protection on my insurance. It dragged on for two years but I was handsomely compensated for bike/gear/knee damage. It’s an occupational hazard. Hopefully you’ll be handsomely compensated and 100% soon.
Cheers

That’s very local to where I live and I’ve often seen drivers doing u turns for no particular reason and that’s near where a mate of mine died over 30 yrs ago when the car he was in hit one of the trees at speed, anyway good luck you’ll soon be back to good health I’m sure.
I obviously missed this first time around.

I thought the same when I first saw the vid, but he wasn’t filming, he was the one who rang for the ambulance so I think he was struggling to see his phone properly.
Thanks for the comments chaps, I’m back to feeling on top of things in my life again and even enjoy driving again despite all the numpties about.
I do feel very lucky in that this could have been so much worse had it happened a second or two later. All I’ve got to show for it is is a numb big toe.
Took me 3 yrs to get the dosh after I was knocked off by a lass, worth it in the end as it gave me the cash to set up the business, but I was pretty battered & my knee was never the same again.
But luck was on my side, I went over the bonnet, few cm more & I’d have hit the side square on & doubt I’d be here typing this.

I’m hoping they don’t write the bike off t.b.h. It’s a mark 1 Fazer, 1998, only 21’000 miles on the clock, which for the age is remarkable. It’s a solid, well built commuter bike, no fancy electronics, easy to work on. It only cost me £1200 and had it about 4 years, I ride it all year round and my Mrs finds it comfortable as a pillion. If the Yamaha dealership at Fowlers (also known as Fowlups to many bike riders, as their service reputation is appalling) write it off because they can’t be arsed to mend it, i’ll ring around a few other garages to see if they can sort it out.
Glad to hear you’re ok, but stay open minded about the bike. I had to make a rapid exit from my 99 Fazer a couple of years ago when I became ‘suddenly invisible’, got myself wedged under the car for a good long while but the bike just slid down the road a bit, not a huge pile of damage, but they cat c’d it anyway due to its age. Paid me above book price and let me buy it back for £50. Never did fix it though, bought a Bandit instead!
Just realised I’d been a ■■■ and not read to the end of the post. All I will say is I hope to god it’s not M****ster Law you have representing you, or another one of these firms of insurance company appointed ‘so called solicitors’. When it came to my compo they let me right down, ripped me off horribly, even deducting all my counselling sessions out of my payment, took 4 years to get anything after the initial bike payment, and it was probably 50% down on where it should have been. seriously, you’ve got to stay right on top of the solicitors, do not trust them to be doing any of the things they say they are.

The driver was taken to court earlier in the year and convicted of dangerous driving, given 5 points and a fine of around £350..
This is an observation not a criticism . Dangerous driving for this incident seems harsh for UK mamby pamby standards, I would have thought driving without due care and attention and a slapped wrist.
I spose he got the more severe DD charge due to the stupid place he decided to do a U-turn.
Anyway, that’s a good result on the part of the cabbage driving the car, deserves it 100%. I was just surprised the muppet got what he got.
Thanks Indigo, I’ve got Gordon Slater as solicitors, which I’ve no idea if they’re good or not. I agree with your sentiments with regards to trust as I don’t trust them. I’m just waiting to see what they do after the second check up with the specialist in January.

That’s a fair comment Gembo, I’m not sure what the criteria was for being able to get a DD conviction. I do know they showed the dash cam footage in court, so that probably made it easier to get a harsher penalty. I agree also, he was both a cabbage and a muppet.
I bet he was turning around to go up Bridge Valley Rd after missing his turning .

IIRC, there’s a roundabout he could have used just a couple of minutes further on.
Never ceases to amaze me the poor judgement and chances some people take just to save a few minutes!

No it’s more than a couple of minutes on more like 10.
MikeDBristol:
I slipped into a depression following the accident. I have been ill with depression in the past and I have been on and off antidepressants for 10 years or so but felt stable at the time and wasn’t taking them. I went back on a course of anti depressants and had some one to one and group CBT sessions which im glad to say helped a lot but was also time consuming and stressful.
And depression is where a legal profession wants to keep you mate, and only looking to grind you down through dragging things out as much as they can. It’s a war of attrition pal, or that’s how you need to view it, and your opposition are professionals in prevarication!
Hang in there and never show a sign to them that you’ll stop…
As for being on the GP’s smarties on and off for 10 years, I wouldn’t read too much into that as a clinical condition, as I think everyone gets offered them to F off out their office ASAP, they’ve got budgets to meet!
Is the guy who gets out of the blue van filming? Looks like he’s holding a phone/camera
Instead of getting out to see if you’re okay initially, his first thought is to start filming. Probably took a couple of selfies too

Ah right, that’ll be why then. Mind you, that’s turned out to be a very expensive 10 minutes for him!
