I got hit off my motorbike while travelling home after work last week. The speed for the road is 50mph, I was doing around 30mph as the traffic on the Portway was backed up for miles, and I have had people pull across the bus lane without looking before and narrowly missed having an accident, so I slow right down when the traffics bad. Obviously I wasn’t so lucky this time.
I got off lightly though as the only damage to myself is a badly swollen and sprained ankle/foot where his front bumper crushed my ankle against the bike. I’ve just got back from the hospital after a check up and they’ve given me a 2 week sick note, so in all, i’'ll have been off work for 3 weeks.
The bike may or may not be written off, I’m waiting for the garage to get back to me.
With regards to the insurance, I’m fully comp with legal advice and he’s fully comp and admitted full liability.
I’m posting this here as everybody likes footage of an actual crash and not just a “close call” vid.
Someone must have been looking out for you that day fella, unlike that ■■■ in the car…came away from that lightly as you say a second later could have been a different story.
Get well soon fella,I’d put a little kiss on the end but we’ve only just met
Was that a bus lane you were biking down?
Not wanting to have a go and I hope you get well soon. Im just wondering as I can understand why the driver didn’t expect you although he should have looked

Thanks for all the well wishes, it means a lot, even though I haven’t met you personally (or maybe I have in a drivers rest room somewhere) , it’s still nice to hear. The lane is a 24 hr dedicated bus/taxi/cycle/motorcycle lane.
Close call that I had a stupid lorry driver (true sorry) reverse back on his wing mirrors because he wanted a parking space for a boot sale and I was sat right behind him wondering why he had stopped when then was no traffic in front of him! I could not overtake as there was oncoming traffic, anyway he out the car in reverse and preceded to climb my bubble (windscreen). Cost Aviva £2600 for new bublle, mud guard both fairings, brake and clutch handles and rebuild.
I’m hoping they don’t write the bike off t.b.h. It’s a mark 1 Fazer, 1998, only 21’000 miles on the clock, which for the age is remarkable. It’s a solid, well built commuter bike, no fancy electronics, easy to work on. It only cost me £1200 and had it about 4 years, I ride it all year round and my Mrs finds it comfortable as a pillion. If the Yamaha dealership at Fowlers (also known as Fowlups to many bike riders, as their service reputation is appalling) write it off because they can’t be arsed to mend it, i’ll ring around a few other garages to see if they can sort it out.
If they rebuild don’t let them send it to Just bike clinic, they are useless and they put a Chinese cheap clutch handle on mine so had to send it back. I sold my bike in May and miss it like hell, it was a beautiful Honda VFR 800 with very loud Leo Vince pipes You could here me coming from the next village. Ah well getting too old for that game
Get well soon Mike. As has been said it could’ve been a far worse outcome, so get that lottery ticket bought.
Numpties like that are one of the reasons I left the road and took to the track. Well, that and the fact that I valued my life, liberty and licence too much! No sense of restraint you see.

If they do write it off ask the insurance company for a price to buy it back, they usually just deduct it from the settlement cheque, then you can get it fixed wherever you want, the Portway always makes me wince when bikers scoot down the inside lane, crap road planning.
