Has anyone ever seen a Highways Agencies driver acknowledge you flashing them in or letting them pull out at junctions? They appear to think they own the road network. Just sayin…
I just think they’re people doing their job like your doing your job and I’m doing my job. It wouldn’t surprised me if they were told not to so as not to confuse other road users etc.
Personally I don’t flash other cars in, nor do I flash police cars in etc etc

Thing is highways England do own the road… end of the day, you’re not obliged to let them in… and if they don’t respond so what move on… might of been busy , getting soon etc youre speculation.
Highways the worst? Not even in the ball park I’m afraid. You wanna see bad driving of biblical proportions keep a look out for anything with an Addison Lee badge on it.
Gotta be a special breed to sit on motorways staring through a screen…

Haha
I’ve nothing against these guys,.I always find it strange as to why there is so much negativity towards them on here.
For instance , I’d like to think my Mrs or daughters were being looked after by them if they broke down on the hard shoulder.
Main question to o/p is …why tf do you ‘‘flash in’’ a 4x4 which is basically a car ?

Because they think they can tell us what to do !
They’re not even police officers!
Flashing in etc etc is only a courtesy thing for some drivers, its not obligatory. Berate the HA off as much as you like they do a ■■■■ good job,try looking at TV programs about their work and you will see the stupidity of the general public AND hgv drivers.
The one time Ive actually dealt with them, when I had a trailer fire they were ■■■■■■ to be honest. Condescending, not helpful, almost threatening at times if my company didnt get a wrecker out almost instantly to drag the trailer away. No empathy in a stressful situation so thumbs down from me im afraid.
And coincidentally I also let one join M1 last night even though he was driving along to match my speed, so I slowed as the motorway was rammed, and no acknowledgement. Failed wannabe coppers arent they?
On a side point, the tossers who put the cones out, Highways Maintenance, are far worse drivers!!
Highways Agencies drivers - the worst of the lot?
Yes, in every category.

Sorry if my post warranted a eye rolling emoji, …the last time I dealt with HATO I was in the outward slip road at Sandbach msa with a blow out,.I had a tyre van coming out, and the HATO guy delayed sending for a wrecker that his office had told him to order immediately,.he used a bit of common sense that the tyre van was already on his way, he then shut the adjacent lane 1…, so they ain’t all bad.

It was more about my “there’re not police officer” comment

+1,000,000 they are a nightmare when i drove in london regualy i once tried to count how many times i was cut up or blocked in etc etc by one of them… lost count after 30+
From my experience of these guys and gals, they appear to be jobs worths.
Perhaps someone could explain to me why they make car drivers get out of a vehicle that is designed to protect the occupants and get them to stand at the side of the motorway…right in the place that their vehicle would wipe them out if a truck hit it…clownworld

yes.
I’m amazed that you think sitting in a car on the hard shoulder is safer than being out of it. Give it some thought.

Err, they actually have powers that allow them to which are laid out in the Traffic Management Act 2004:
direct a person driving or propelling a vehicle to stop the vehicle, or to make it proceed in, or keep to, a particular line of traffic
for the purposes of a traffic survey of any description which is being carried out on or in the vicinity of a road, to direct a person driving or propelling a vehicle to stop the vehicle, or to make it proceed in, or keep to, a particular line of traffic, or to proceed to a particular point on or near the road on which the vehicle is being driven or propelled (subject to the restriction in section 35(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (c. 52))
when regulating vehicular traffic in a road, direct persons on foot (or such persons and other traffic) to stop
direct a person driving a mechanically propelled vehicle, or riding a cycle, on a road to stop the vehicle or cycle
place and temporarily maintain traffic signs on a road
remove and dispose of vehicles in line with the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles (Traffic Officers) (England) Regulations 2008
They’re not even police officers!
They are however assigned certain powers. They do for example have the power to stop the traffic.

Clearly the education system failed you.
They’re not in a position that their vehicle would wipe them out if a truck hit it, the truck would propel it forwards, not at a 90 degree angle to the left and at least if they saw it was about to happen they could run away.
Cars aren’t designed to protect the occupants to the point they’ll survive an impact with a 44 tonne vehicle travelling at 90KPH, it’s not possible - even a stationary lorry being hit by another lorry at that speed often never ends well. You’re talking of an impact force of 9 meganewtons, the equivalent of over a 900 tonne-force initial force of impact. If you think that a car is designed to protect the occupants from that force of impact I don’t know what to say. Have you not seen the photos over the years in the news of the remnants of stationary cars and especially breakdown vans hit on the hard shoulder? This is the effect of a 9 MN force impact:
This happened on the hard shoulder of the A1M near Wetherby when a car was hit by a lorry. He stopped to change a tyre and fortunately was out of the vehicle and saw the lorry heading for him so was able to jump over the barrier into precisely the place you say that the HATOs are stupid for getting people to stand in.
Do you think that would be survivable if you were sat in that car? I’ve read some stupidity on the internet in my time but your comment is right up there with the most stupid.
