Highways Agencies drivers - the worst of the lot?

Although we all use flashing headlights as a courtesy or an invite to go, they ‘should’ only be used to alert other drivers to your presence. So it is possible that they are advised not to react to headlight flashes.

You are on dodgy ground if you flash someone in on your driving test, depending on the circumstances.

I really think they should change the advice on that as most people believe it to be a courtesy thing…

I’m sorry, Highway Maintenance are the worst.

From my experience of these guys and gals, they appear to be jobs worths.

Perhaps someone could explain to me why they make car drivers get out of a vehicle that is designed to protect the occupants and get them to stand at the side of the motorway…right in the place that their vehicle would wipe them out if a truck hit it…clownworld

Clearly the education system failed you.

They’re not in a position that their vehicle would wipe them out if a truck hit it, the truck would propel it forwards, not at a 90 degree angle to the left and at least if they saw it was about to happen they could run away.

Cars aren’t designed to protect the occupants to the point they’ll survive an impact with a 44 tonne vehicle travelling at 90KPH, it’s not possible - even a stationary lorry being hit by another lorry at that speed often never ends well. You’re talking of an impact force of 9 meganewtons, the equivalent of over a 900 tonne-force initial force of impact. If you think that a car is designed to protect the occupants from that force of impact I don’t know what to say. Have you not seen the photos over the years in the news of the remnants of stationary cars and especially breakdown vans hit on the hard shoulder? This is the effect of a 9 MN force impact:

This happened on the hard shoulder of the A1M near Wetherby when a car was hit by a lorry. He stopped to change a tyre and fortunately was out of the vehicle and saw the lorry heading for him so was able to jump over the barrier into precisely the place you say that the HATOs are stupid for getting people to stand in.

Do you think that would be survivable if you were sat in that car? I’ve read some stupidity on the internet in my time but your comment is right up there with the most stupid.

I didnt explain myself very well. The point I was trying to make was that if the occupants were taken back down the road 5 or 10yds then they would be out of danger.Debris can also injure and that will fly in all directions.

I will accept defeat as I cant trump 9 meganewtons.

Don’t worry about

By sheer coincidence 9 megawhatsits is the same force that Conor’s keyboard feels when he’s banging out one of his replies

Addison Lee and Toyota Prius drivers the worst. I had one Addison Lee cut me up jump a red light and got it. When the cops came they put me as a witness. Addison muppet was not too pleased when it went to court. The dash cam footage nailed him.

Ages ago was with my.mate as a passenger in his car.
He ran out of fuel parked on hard shoulder. His brother turned up with can of petrol.
In mean time.higways turned up found them ok once got car going they said we’re double.back on the motoway create a rolling roadblock to enable us to rejoin the motoway safely.
We waited and waited and waited after 20 mins we gave up and left on our own accord …god knows where they went

Only had help from them… once …they were 100% also the police …gave me time to get recovery can not fault them …still good and bad all over

How long does it take to organise a rolling roadblock?
It`ll be more than a few minutes.

I hope your driver was given a thorough bollocking for running out of fuel?
If not that`s a bonus for him.
