Talking of slating the Highways agency, The other morning i was travelling M5 North around Gordano in the early hours and i noticed the signs in the middle of the motorway at 20 and a lane was closed. As you do i pulled into lane 2 and some muppet in a artic was in lane 1 still.
Around the bend was 2 HATO guys dealing with an accident. this truck then swereved in front of me into lane 2.
Now i ask you, as a professioanl driver, did he/she not see the signs like i did, was he/she asleep or did he just think their normally on for nothing so they would just ignore them. And around the bend was these guys with a smashed up car.
I tell you, before you slate them, i think this guy and many other āProffessionalā drivers should pay a bit more attention.
The M5 puts a spell on you , itās full of fairies with sleeping dust .

Simon, Iām not quite sure what to make of your post. Perhaps you are joking perhaps not. What would have happened if it hadnāt been an attentive professional driver in lane 2. Perhaps instead swerving at the last minute could have caused a far more serious accident. As for do I think he would have run into the back of them, not sure, ask my colleague who has still not returned to duty 18 months after a professional trucker hit him.
Having said that there are some idiots in all walks of life. I am sure that most of the HATOās out there, like me, look to truckers for help as they are paying attention, observe instructions and are happy to help

Yeah Iām back in the West, I did 6 years running out of Sheffield and havenāt been over Woodhead since. Trouble is, now Iām driving the sleepy M5 Iām not battle hardened anymore to the hills and spills of the North. I was bricking it going North of Leicester on the M1 recently.
