The irony when were told that the world is supposedly turning its back on fossil fuel to save the planet.
Let alone in a country that’s sitting on an ocean of our own oil and gas and a mountain of our own coal.Coal which can also easily be turned into gas to liquid fuels.
@carryfast. My January bill was £140 total for 2297 kWh gas and 157 kWh electric.
15 quid of that was standing charges.
Not forgetting all the VAT on usage and the carbon taxes on the gas + VAT on the carbon tax.
We’re sitting on an ocean of gas and a mountain of coal and were living like freezing peasants while our gas is exported to keep everyone else in the world warm.
That’s almost the same as we’ve been paying in December/January on Octopus Energy flexible tariff, I’ve upped my monthly DD to £100/month as Spring/Summer/Autumn months aren’t going to be that expensive, Hopefully I’ll be in credit by the end of the this year.
They’re now talking about large scale deployment of permanent carbon removal from the atmosphere as well as lowering emissions before 2030 as we’re signed up to net zero. “By 2030, the EU executive has set an aspirational target for technology-based solutions to remove 5 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere, far more than the 4,000 tons of CO2 that Climeworks AG is able to capture every year.” How much is that lot going to cost? They cant rely on forests to soak it up as we burn ‘X’ amount of it for electricity production & great swathes of forests are on fire each year.

I’m on the Octopus variable tariff. Its going to increase in April probably to 26p per kWh electric and 6p per kWh for gas which I was quoted for a new fixed deal.
I got into a debate with their customer services recently which went along the lines of stop Al Gore ■■■■■■■ on us with his get rich quick electric captive market scam and telling us it’s raining.Wholesale costs of gas who is he fooling when he wants the government to load it with even more carbon taxation.I told the hypocrites to stop selling gas and then let their customers vote with our wallets.
Carbon capture will obviously be the default cover story for the fact that the nuke fuelled zero carbon utopia is unaffordable and undeliverable and won’t be accepted by Germany at least.
As for burning trees instead of fossil fuel, so they can export the fossil fuel, that says it all about this scam.CO2 bs.
It occurs to me, that international relations with Energy Exporter that is Putin’s Russia has deliberately been fouled, to push up fossil fuel prices to such an extent, that even overpriced “Green” energy is thus embraced as a suitable replacement now?
As for Europe - cutting off their noses to spite their faces, by closing the Nordstream pipeline… Idiots surrounded by Clowns!
I’m disappointed that Boris has failed to break rank with NATO as he has done seemingly over the end to the Covid lockdown…

What Russian gas Europe doesn’t use gets sent to China instead.
While Germany will just deplete our gas resources instead.
There’s no way that the Fatherland will want to be part of Boris’ and Macron’s nuke fuelled utopia.

If you take the bill as read we’ve gone from £24.75 c on 4 th feb to £118.94 dr on the 15 th feb , good job I’ve followed the mrs round switching the light off !!
I’ll take yr bill and raise it…. And no, I don’t think I’m paying for the street!
Holy crap! there are some scary fixed deals out there at the moment
OVO’s 1 & 2 year fixed deals.

Standing charge 52p per day and 30p + per kWh for electric doesn’t fit the narrative of cheap renewable electric and wholesale gas prices being the problem.
That’s before they apply fuel taxes to EV’s.
Solid fuel boiler and generator running on gas or red diesel makes much more sense at those figures. The energy suppliers are taking the ■■■■.
No surprise that their propaganda service is calling for a ban on solid fuel but it’s ok for them to use biomass.

From what I’ve found out about the higher standing charges it’s a charge to pay for all the failed energy companies over the last 12 months.
“£68 a year is to be added to electricity standing charge to cover the SoLR process for the failed companies. That’s about 18p per day that everyone has to pay regardless of whether you’ve been with a failed company or not” forums.moneysavingexpert.com…ost-doubled/p2

As opposed to the charge being added to income tax.
So even more incentive to go ‘off grid’ rather than subsidise the energy bosses’ lifestyle.
While it proves that it’s got nothing to do with the wholesale price of gas and that were being scammed big time.

To add.
25p per day increase is a lot more than £68 pa.When even 25p doesn’t fit the narrative of high wholesale gas prices being the issue. With electric supposedly being the new utopia when it’s clearly anything but.
Biden talks about AMericans having to “make sacrifices” in the form of higher gas(oline) bills in particular.
Got a letter this morning - The price is going up for Electricity by about 50% and gas by nearly 75% from April 1st.
WTF■■?
Here’s the chart for UK Natural Gas… The Wholesale price of Natural Gas…
It is WAY off the top already and they think we’re going to swallow a made-up completely profiteered price way over a premium above the actual price■■?
“Great Reset” - seems poised to loot and uttery rob ALL western citizens with less than a million in the bank now - “All in the name of speaking harsh sanction language to Putin”…
…Putin - this guy a wise person would consider Buying Gas from right now, rather than consider buying the farm trying to fight against his (in his mind…) “Just War” of Neo ■■■■ clearances…
I can’t help but think that over the following weeks and months, when Ukraine isn’t taken back for Kiev, and our bills continue to skyrocket - that any “political pressure” to cease and desist - will be aimed at Western Establishment rather than Putin’s clearly under-estimated ‘establishment’…

Quoting a price pa makes no sense.
The price is calculated and totally dependent on unit prices and usage + standing charges.
Which are reaching the point where going off grid for electric and a solid fuel boiler makes sense.
Also think that the washing machine and dishwasher could still be rigged to take a hot fill by connecting the hot water supply to the machine’s cold inlet to add to my gas hob kettle too get back at these thieving scammers.

Getting back at them by putting even more money their way due to all the rinse cycles also using hot water…?

By the time I’ve had a shower and the dishwasher and washing machine have taken their wash water there won’t be much if any hot water left in the hot water tank for the rinse cycles anyway. Then just switch off the boiler at that point.
Or plumb the machine’s to both the hot and cold side with a T connector and close the valve on the hot side for cold fill and vice versa.
The kitchen is still plumbed for when we actually had hot/cold fill machines in that regard.

The gas price - has not bounced back up again. How many days does it need to stay down here, before we can demand the retail price be cut, rather than raised in April like we’ve been told to expect now?
The retail price of fossil fuel products here is being manipulated to meet the ‘climate’ agenda.
The government has openly stated an intention to economically ■■■■■■■ the fossil fuel choice with punitive artificial pricing to match electric, if not outright bans on use.
The energy suppliers are obviously onside with that to make Al Gore etc richer.
The climate agenda needs to take a back seat for the immediate future.
This is an acute emergency fellas.

Germany are already signing documents with a Dutch company to build LNG terminals in Brunsbüttel to cut the reliance on Russian gas, The only trouble is the German minister said is It’s not only going to be more expensive than Russian gas it’s going to be exorbitantly more expensive.

Obviously not as ‘exorbitantly expensive’ and dangerous as nuclear electric at 30p per kWh.
If we’re now finally obviously going to ditch the bs CO2 crusade we can also bring coal back online.
Bearing in mind that we are sitting on an ocean of our own gas and oil and a mountain of coal.
Which then leaves the question of those exorbitant carbon taxes being applied to it all.
Or is it different rules for the Fatherland in that regard.
