Hi Viz whilst driving

Why on earth do any of you care?! I couldn’t care less what others wear or don’t wear, life’s too short

Personally I can’t see what the big deal is. I’ve worn hi-viz whilst driving, because I was shunting and the trip seemed too short to take it off and the trucks were shunters and already had a layer of grime; mostly I prefer not to wear them whilst driving though, although when I was doing building site work, you often had to put on your hi-viz and hard hat when you entered site, even if you weren’t leaving your cab.

I’ve worn a hi-viz jacket while out shopping, because it’s cold and wet outside and my hi-viz jacket is waterproof and warm and it’s in the back of the car, pardon me for not rushing home and changing my outfit.

As for lanyards with passes on them, convenient place to put them, you need them to get back into work and in the case of when I worked in that environment, it also got you discount in a lot of local business.

Firstly, not ‘caring’ so much as commenting.
Secondly, I just like winding these hi viz guys up and watch them getting annoyed.

I have been to quarries and land fills where they go mental if you are not wearing your hi-vis. Its easier to just keep it on.

Ah, the vest. It brings a smile to my face when every time I get back to base and get out to fill up with diesel a horrified fellow driver or a security guard will yell at me “WHERE’S YOUR HI-VIZ, MATE■■? PUT YOUR HI VIZ ON!!!”

I have always left mine on. It must mean im a complete nob then. I think its cos we load our own trucks at the warehouse now and ive been told off for not having my hi viz on so i must just forget to take it off after 2 hours loading.

OK, so why is it then that on the test (and during the training) you and the examiner wear hi-viz? I honestly don’t know (or care) if hi-viz in cab is a legal requirement or not…but it does bug me a little, as it was (apparently, as I never really asked) mandatory for the driving training and test.

I was wondering if the experienced drivers among you can say why some wear hi vis vests and indeed, jackets whilst driving?

Is it a company rule?

Simple. They are a pain in the *rse to get on or off. So keep it on.

The bigger issue is how warm it is versus length of drive. If its muggy will take it off the jacket and put it on over the shirt. If it is raining I’ll just put the high vis coat on when I get out.

If it is colder I drive in the jacket with high vis over and put coat on if necessary (usually to stop bloody grease getting over my jacket/trousers) when I get out dropping/coupling up trailers.

When you guys go to a place that supplies secondary ppe such as hair nets, or beard nets, or those bloody silly hats you get at food factories, …do you rock up at home to your Mrs still.wearing em?
Go on admit it, you do really don’t you :frowning:

I used to deliver couple of times a week to Jacobs Dowe Egberts in Banbury, used to give me a hair net despite having less hair that I was born with and depending on the shave frequency a beard net. Shave that morning, fine. 2 days growth, thats a beard cover   Never worn either (apart from stupid selfies for FB) because I never had to go inside the factory, was delivering dry ice to the maintenance compound! Stupid thing, they knew this and still handed them over :unamused:

On the original topic, walk out of gatehouse stripping yellow vest off, climb in and chuck it somewhere near the passenger seat, get to store and put it on, finish delivery, climb back in and chuck it back at the passenger seat. Hate driving in them, too much reflection and I cant drive in a jacket, prefer not to even wear a jumper.

Its part of my work attire unfortunately. I have to wear it almost everywhere I go. So it gets put on in the morning when I leave the house and taken off at night when I get home immaterial of whether I’ve been shopping or anything else on the way home.

Don’t like it?? Tough ■■■■■ :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Got these for the summer, dont look like I’ll need them
