I would be grateful for any comments on why HGV drivers believe the WTD and the purpose or spirit of the regulations would be beneficial to drivers and operators.
Thanks
Load of crap. I preferred it when I could have 3x15 min breaks. It broke up the day.
What’s your opinion of the WTD? You keep posting on the subject so what’s your beef with it?
I do not believe it is of benefit. Goodbye.
Well you won’t get a positive message about the WTD from me, just another tier of legislation and extra admin. If they want to improve the working time for truck driver the that could be done with the simplification of existing tacho regs.
are you for [zb] real or just a total prat

agreed there knuckles

RTD should have it all sewn up. Why bother with WTD as well, which drops you in the crapper for things like “not taking a break before 6 hours in”?
So, you’re finally loaded, and set off 2 hours into your duty, and bugger me, it’s a 4.15m run, so guess what? You are obliged under WTD to pull up just outside your destination, and take a break?
FFS - What was wrong with being allowed to take one when you got on a bay? Fit the damned breaks in when it’s convienient to YOU rather than the whim of the traffic…
It’s as bad as forcing drivers to sit in “The Cooler” for 90mins whilst you get tipped, rather than have a H&S rule that makes you pull off your red airline whilst you take your break in your cab on top of handing your keys in…
Total waste of time. As I’ve always said, if the law stated you will NOT exceed 60 per week, and no more than 48 average over the ref period, then fair do’s. But you can carry on doing 84 hrs, but have to hide 24 of them. It only encourages tipping on break etc if you ask me
What needs to happen is for the RTD to be used for its original intention which was to reduce the time when not on rest (not break)
Simplifying the drivers hours rules has no bearing on the WTD as most are not covered by drivers rules.
the WTD does not just apply to drivers !

The RTD or RT(WT)D is for mobile workers/drivers not the WTD

Yep, 15 hours everyday should do.
The RTD or RT(WT)D is for mobile workers/drivers not the WTD
are they not the same with just a couple of amendments, i.e POA for drivers?

Not the same
The breaks for RTD are mandatory but the breaks for WTD are not - that is just one difference
The real question is why can i work on an oil rig,in an operating theatre,a quarry,an old folks home etc as long as I like but can only drive a truck for 90 hours a fortnight.
Its hardly ■■■■■ hard work is it? then I can drive my car 2,3,10 hours home and thats not a problem?
It should be enforced, POA should be done away with 4 12 hour days is enough for anyone.

Is driving the only part of a drivers work?
RTD is based on the amount of working time done in a fixed week but I would rather see an amendment to the drivers hours rules which would state a certain amount of total REST time required in a fixed week
There are 168 hours in the fixed week - how many of those hours should be recorded as REST to prevent a driver working too many hours ?
