The problem with the boffins is, that they will create a world that doesn’t need humans…
Ha life without Carryfast and a few others may be sheer bliss. lol.
But you are quite correct…Solve current problems and new ones arise…always been the way!

Dr Damon:
When did I say that it will need a human to lean it into corners ? And none of what you mention is too much for it. The robobike would already do it a lot better than the average human being and soon will be able to do it better than the top current riders in the world. Now forget racing just think what they can achieve in transport in coming years. No fatigue,no heart attacks, no road rage, far less fatalities (if any) and everything carried out proficiently without mistakes.
What a wonderful world it will be!
I’m beginning to think that my mum has done more miles as a passenger on the back of my dad’s Square 4 than you’ve ever ridden anything on two wheels solo.
If I’ve read it right Franglais was talking about a robot taxi bike.So robot decides to lean it left into the entry of a roundabout but total non biker passenger with no one to tell them decides it’s already time to lean right to go round it or robot leans right to go round it while idiot passenger decides it’s time to lean left for the exit.Or similar through a series of bends.Or passenger doesn’t even lean with robo bike at all. That’ll end well.
While if I’ve read it right your idea is that all bikers lose their licence race and/or road but then still buy a robot bike for its own amusement and as a form of charity for the robot bike designers and suppliers, while they use a bicycle or the robot bus or taxi to go anywhere.
As for all the rest of your typical control freak bollox then at least let’s make it a matter of freedom of choice so we can all vote with our wallets.

Franglais:
An automated bike (a safe one) for commuting? With a little bit of weather protection, in an increasingly densely populated urban environment. . I can see a market there. That already exists. Its called a bus.
But we’re talking about a vehicle that will come to you as a taxi would, and you wouldn’t have to sit next to the village idiot. Being smaller lighter and more manoeuvrable than a car type taxi it’ll be cheaper nippiier and more energy efficient.
Look, if you want it explained better I’m inviting mu… discerning investors to a symposium in Billy’s Bar soon. Free soggy plastic wrapped sandwiches will be provided. Just bring along your cheque books.
Does that include requests for funding for the advert campaign needed to compete against the robo taxi cab services.Bearing in mind that the robo bike will need to have loads more computing power just to keep itself on its two wheels than the proper 4 wheeled cab.Meanwhile jobless workers can’t afford taxi fares and the remaining management and banker classes really won’t want to give up the fun of driving the BMW or the Merc to travel by robo zb box taxi let alone robo motorbike taxi.
I have no doubt that this autonomy will come to pass in time. What I do doubt is it’s widespread application in my lifetime (I’m 54 now). One thing I do know for sure though is the prospect of it is a Godawful thought. To imagine a world with totally driverless vehicles fills me with dread. I’m a driver, I drive. It’s what I do. I like nothing better than being chauffeured around from time to time, but eventually the itch to actually drive becomes too much and I have to give in to it.
I’m not talking about hooning around at Mach 2 with my hair on fire (as fun as that sometimes is) I’m talking about a nice bimble about taking in the scenery and just driving/riding for the sheer pleasure of it.
One more thing I’m sure of is if this brave new automated world does come to pass there’ll be a certain clinic located in Switzerland that will see its profits go through the roof!

maoster, a very sensible response to this thread, no arguing, no insults your faith is strong but you need the proof. It is a pity that others with differing opinions to any topic cannot give this type of response other than the usual end of debate reply.

Yes of course it will and yes it may not be widespread in your lifetime but I am sure you will see a lot more than you expect.
I am exactly the same about driving and riding especially riding. If I don’t ride a bike which is usually when there is snow and ice about I get the itch. Same with cars and trucks although the former not so much. Sometimes I may drive a rigid which I don’t mind at all but I usually get the itch to jump back into something that bends.
As I have said before I have always been a big petrolhead and the thought of electric/autnomous vehicles also fills me with dread BUT the fact of the matter is it is going to happen whether we like it or not and no amount of completely denying it by some on here will make any difference.

Why do you always manage to misunderstand what people write. Go back and read my posts again before you start going on to me about something someone else has posted.
How can you get so confused and at the same time managing to confuse everybody else?

The fact of your enthusiasm for it contradicts your supposed bs ‘dread’ of it.
The rest sounds to me like a typical green party statement.Let’s not bother with inconvenient stuff like getting a democratic mandate for this control freak world that you’re trying to impose on everyone. As opposed to the usual norms along the lines of freedom of choice if we want to use the bus or walk or drive now added to by robo taxi/bus.Or for that matter haulage operators when they’ve done the sums and decided that it’s cheaper to employ the driver to drive than to replace him with loads of expensive pointless needless technology. But of course that doesn’t fit your obvious insidious green party type crusade or the snake oil sales pitch to make a few bob on the side.

You clearly stated that you intend to see an end to private transport use as part of this control freak agenda. While intending to see robot motorbikes along with all the rest of robot vehicle agenda.
While Franglais said that he can foresee robot taxi motorbikes as part of that.
Assuming the former but not the latter what would be the point of motorbikes which no one can actually ride or use ?.
While assuming the latter my reply to Franglais applies.Although I’d guess that Franglais might have been on a wind up.
Which part have I supposedly got wrong.

Seriously. If bikes can perform without a rider, just as cars can perform without a driver. (not today agreed) Why not?
Don’t think of it as a sporting motorcycle. It’s gonna be a small electric car for one person and light luggage (a commuter) that only needs two wheels.
Engine------motor
Two--------- bi
Wheels------cycle
That’s what I’m suggesting may be on the cards.
Don’t think of an existing machine with a two armed two legged humanoid astride it.

So along the lines of a robot Lambretta powered by a Hoover motor and ridden side saddle by its unfortunate passenger like the Italian birds do.
Meanwhile the Indians are already way ahead of you with a more stable 3 wheeled design. While also saving the costs of the robot technology and the costs and weight of the batteries, better weather protection and more capacity for extra passengers and even light freight deliveries if needed.
A clean Tuk Tuk ?
Great.
About a dozen times bigger than what’s in my garden shed at the moment.
But I can’t tell you about that yet. …
