Hi everybody, I used to work for Hercock Continentals Dover office. worked for them for approx. 17 years. Leicester had Volvos 88 then F10s whilst london had Scanias. I have nice memories of leaving school and starting work there, all the drivers were nice guys. The London driver who got killed in France was Steve Andersen reg.no. of the unit was B256 XOO never forget that Saturday when i got news, I read in the Forum that Dave Coop who was with Steve has since passed away having suffered a heart attack 3/4 year ago.
I thought Johnny Whitbread went to Spain to live, pleased he’s still alive i enjoyed some of his tall stories. haha.
Alf Koski pleased to read he’s still alive, he was quite a good singer with a belly full of beer in the East Cliff hotel.
I rememer so many other drivers names from leicester, if anybody wants to get in touch pleasse do so.
Mark.
John is alive & well & still working part time ;living in Harwich. ( For the anoracs this is not the exact geographical location but it gives John some privacy on the net )

Wouldn’t have thought there’d be any anoracs on this site mate, surely everybody is like minded having individuals interest at heart, I got made redundant from Hercock long before london finished, never had time to say goodbye to any of the lads there…Regards to John for me!!!
spot on, mark, jw is not on the internet, so saying where he lives wouldn`t bother him,
i do see him quite often so i will tell him you was asking .

Thanks Supercube.
Hi Mark, nice to hear from you, I used to work in the London office with
Des. Are you still in the freight game ■■?, What about Dave is he
still around ■■?
To Supercube, please also pass on my best wishes to John
Whitbread
I was trying to rack my brains on some other drivers. Another post
mentioned “Little Legs” which was Alan Coleman ?, think I read
he passed away, please correct me if I am wrong
Anyone know what happened to Alan Hayden, Jeff Richards,
Bill Spencer (Leiester was on Stokes). Is Neil Pettit still driving,
I remember how excited he was when we took him on the
European Work.
On some subbies is Barry Watts still around ■■ and Derek
Nickolds (DN Euroepean).
In some ways I wish I had stayed involved and bought the
company myself. Had some good ideas which may have or
may not have worked.
For Mark, did Des retire totally, always thought he might move
abroad as he went to Switzerland every year on holiday.
Cheers to you all, Paul Glibbery
Paul 5464 - Neil Petit drives for Redburn Transfer now.
Thanks for that info, if you are in contact with Neil and Chris Redburn
please pass on my regards. Paul
Great to hear about some of these lads.
Does anyone remember Johnny Arco from Nottingham, he worked out of Leicester in the early 70’s before leaving in 73/74 to do the Middle East and Saudi.

Hi Paul, nice to hear from you, didn’t realise you wrote as I don’t check this site out much, not sure what happened to Des, although I think he remarried.
As regards to Dave he still is in freight working in an office in Dover town, still doing paperwork see him around occassionally.
Neil Pettitt was dead keen, I remember him buying Polish and buffing up his tractor unit, seemed so proud of it…
I spoke with Johnny Whitbread on the phone sounds just the same, works at B&Q still tells his stories and still holds court to a crowd of youngsters at lunch time telling stories whilst they eat their sandwiches.
The name Little legs rings a bell, now I can only picture this guy cant remember his proper name but he was of slight build with thinning hair brushed back, I guess at the time in his 50’s the name you mention Alan Coleman rings a bell.
Do you remember that time you gave me Sam Fox’s home phone number, I thought it was a wind up but when I rang the number it really was, I spoke to her mother.
Good times, seems years ago. Write soon.
Mark.

Great that this topics come up again, as i remember Hercocks very well, i still know a lot of the old drivers from the leicester depot, always used to see their 88s and F10s trammin down aylestone road on sundays heading for the M1 dover bound. They had a few F7s as well artics and 8 legger tippers that replaced the 86s. The ex Leicester drivers i still know are Paul Warner (on Denbys), Ian Anderson (his dad was a driver there too) on Hardings) Brian Laywood & Roger Bonnick (both ex widdowsons & retired), Mick Hamilton-Parkes (looks like him in that 88-240 above) on widdowsons), Brian Yates & Joe Streather (both on for Artisan Press) , Graham Price (on Cert), Ted Woods (retired). There’s a few more but can’t think at the mo’.
