I pulled into a yard on Friday night where you need to back into the wharehouse to be loaded, it was my first time there so wasnt aware a low trailer would have been handy Well the guy comes over to me and says " trailer looks a bit high drive, will it go under ? " so I looked at the height signs above the door there were two, (Meters & Feet) one said 4.3 M and the other said 14’ 10"
My trailer was 14’ 7" so he was a bit puzzled when I said " errr yeah and no " what chance have we got
Not sure what your point is here? Trailer lower than doorway = win.

Me neither, 4.3 metres = 14’ 10" and a bit and trailer 14’ 7"?
14’ 6" is 4.42m so I presume the OP is pointing out that the conversion on the door was a bit iffy?
well this is confusing for those of us young enough to have gone to a metric school.
one person says,
somerset bus driver:
14’ 6" is 4.42m so I presume the OP is pointing out that the conversion on the door was a bit iffy?
and another says,
Coffeeholic:
Me neither, 4.3 metres = 14’ 10" and a bit and trailer 14’ 7"?
has anyone got any more offers
I measure in 9 inch increments but the Mrs insists it’s only 6
4.3M = approx. 14.11’ = approx. 14ft 1 in. So which measurement on the sign is right? It probably said 14.1ft which is potentially misleading. Going solely Metric would avoid all confusion (including foreigners that is). I presume it didn’t fit?
yes I thought 4.3m worked out at 169.29 inches which is 14ft1 but coffee worked it out to 14ft10 so I wasn’t sure if my calculations were any good?
4.3 metres is, to the nearest hundredth of an inch, 14 feet 1.29 inches.
I can see how they got it wrong
from theonlineconverter.co.uk/length-converter/
4.3 Metre (m) = 14.107 611 549 Foot (ft)
a numpty could read that as 14feet, 10 inches instead of 14 feet and O.10 feet ( almost 1 1/4 inches)
now what’s this about Coffeeholic getting something wrong ?

I was just trying to confuse things, I didn’t do any working out and just typed any old ■■■■■■■■.
It’s my new policy on here as it’s getting a bit boring.

Yes, that’s what happened, when the sign was made. Nobody’s perfect.

thats a good policy i like it
1 metre = 3ft 3 inches…so not difficult is it…plus the signs were showing a height greater than the height of the trailer…so there wasnt a problem to start with…just a bit of brain power needed…job sorted.

thats the point though truckyboy the signs WEREN’T showing a height greater than the trailer, the imperial one WAS but the metric one WASN’T. 4.3m is 14ft1 but the trailer was 14ft7
