Patrick I thought some photos actually the only ones I have of the 2 Crusaders we had working in the Western Kimberly of West Oz in the early 70s ,Both powered by Detroit 8v71 series 15 speed road rangers one with A/C {mine] might wet your appetite for a couple of trucks that worked hard all their life but came through it ok as I know my old wagon is still around working/parked on a farm, apologies for invading the HH site but these trucks punched way past their weight at times and the picture conditions I only had a box brownie.
Cheers Dig
DIG, this is getting close to an overdose. Patrick will be on a high for days if not weeks!!! [emoji16][emoji16]
I have to confess though, when I was a wee lad, I did have a soft spot for them. For me they were the bees knees.

One for the ladies this is me just nailing the sign on the back of the box. The Diesel engine in the box was bound for the Falkland Island via Ridham Dock
Story behind these two loads. Factory overhead cranes could only lift 60 tons, the combined weight of the box and Diesel engine was around 65 tons so I had a trailer dropped in the factory, they then put the pre made base on the trailer bed and finished the box off on the trailer overnight. The second lorry then repeated this. Just before the two lorries were due to leave for iirc Hull docks the shipping agent rang to say the quayside couldn’t take the combined weight of the lorries plus load. I had to hire in a mobile crane from NMT Crane hire to lift the two boxes off the trailers and leave them in the yard. £5000 for two lifts + the cost of the lorries! A week later we did everything in reverse and they finally left for Egypt, can’t recall which port that was via.
This is a turbine generator set being loaded by Sauter transport engineering. Overhead crane couldn’t lift that weight so had to be jacked up the trailer reversed under it then lowered onto the trailer. I believe this was bound for ICI Severnside at Avonmouth. The artic in the bottom photo belongs to TWF who took over E.Hull and Fredrick Rays I believe.

Patrick regrettably Newcastle Brown ale hadn’t reached us in the colony we at that time drank beer made from water from the Swan river and called Swan or one called Emu Export I will let you decide how and what that was made from anyhow my son was weaned on the latter it obviously affected him as he now lives in Victoria where they drink that knats p… Fosters.
A steam turbine valued at the time at just over one million pounds! bound for Vickers at Barrow in Furness. In the background one of Allen’s own Leylands and an Inskips artic.
An onshore rig move in north Western Oz you can see we didn’t dis, mantle them any more than we had to ,the truck with just its back end showing is a Pacfic winch truck.
I.m afraid my shoe box is nearly empty but I.m quite happy to jog along on the side with all you blokes with big boot boxes.
