This is the one with me in the driving seat, not the best quality but they are old and I only had a cheap camera.

A couple more of Wrekin Roadways.

Story behind these two loads. Factory overhead cranes could only lift 60 tons, the combined weight of the box and Diesel engine was around 65 tons so I had a trailer dropped in the factory, they then put the pre made base on the trailer bed and finished the box off on the trailer overnight. The second lorry then repeated this. Just before the two lorries were due to leave for iirc Hull docks the shipping agent rang to say the quayside couldn’t take the combined weight of the lorries plus load. I had to hire in a mobile crane from NMT Crane hire to lift the two boxes off the trailers and leave them in the yard. £5000 for two lifts + the cost of the lorries! A week later we did everything in reverse and they finally left for Egypt, can’t recall which port that was via.

Regards Andrew.

Thanks Pete, have to say that the overall experience of using Leicester Heavy Haulage was a good one, there was a lot of messing around with the way the engines had to be loaded but Leicester were really good and from my point of view everything we were involved with went like clockwork. Can’t remember the make of the trailer but was really good, this may be the case with all of these types of trailers so excuse my ignorance but he had the ability to level the trailer once loaded by dropping the suspension slightly one side or the other. Of course it rode higher than the Wrekin low loader which I remember the driver was slightly concerned about.

Regarding the tractor, I reckon it would’ve pulled both trailers if possible! Certainly sounded powerful and had no trouble pulling away with it. Certainly looked impressive and much more up to date than E.Hulls trailers!

Scammells are popular at present, here are a couple more Crusaders…

Cheers LR (Land Rover?) Man, I’m off sick at the moment, but this is the medicine I need to get back on me feet

Hi pv38, sorry to hear you’re sick, keep taking the medicine  There’s plenty of really classic medicine on here at the moment, keep it up everyone!

Yes, Land Rovers are another big thing for me, especially Series Ones and Defenders.

Kempston:
This is a turbine generator set being loaded by Sauter transport engineering. Overhead crane couldn’t lift that weight so had to be jacked up the trailer reversed under it then lowered onto the trailer. I believe this was bound for ICI Severnside at Avonmouth. The artic in the bottom photo belongs to TWF who took over E.Hull and Fredrick Rays I believe.

Hi kempston there was a programme on a while back super truckers featuring kings haulage avonmouth and they were moving two of the generators to a plant they had to reverse it into the building for it to be taken off and put into position ready to be used cheers John

Cheers LR Man, was just the flu, but it held me tightly in it’s grip, now about that (Scammell) medicine, there’s some dodgy bloke on here, going by the name of Dean, trying to take that medicine away from me… now, what sort of a man would do that eh

My grandparents had a Series III, man did I love that machine, they sold it recently though, pity that was…
