A Daf moving a cherry picker from Lincoln to Lancashire via woodhead weighing in at 150 tonnes
I thought that looked familiar, my old regular stamping grounds for 3 years from '96 to '99, then I upped sticks for here. But I had one more trip over memory lane with Gauthier’s. 2 drops Rotherham and Halewood, via Woodhead.
But the memory was marred a bit by a delay in leaving St. Front, due to some repairs needed to the unit. Result was that I tipped early evening at Halewood, instead of late morning, and, out of hours, parked up in a petrol station nearby. The plan had been to get to a pub near Leicester for the night and meet up with a lot of old friends in the petanque world.

Well I’ve oft’ heard sparrows ■■■■■■■ before over the years and these two are certainly still ■■■■■■■ loud and clear to-day ! I reckon the Mods should move this post to the “Skate Board” thread ----150 ton-- — more like 15 ton top whack !
This was a load of probably 150tons not sure what happened but tend to think a malfunction in the engine dept attempt to tow the unit up the jump up tow rope broke and this was the end result after runaway backwards downhill with little steering power

That doesn’t look too pleasant mate! Sort of reminds me of a clip I’ve seen on Facebook, couple of well used pullers (this takes place in the Middle East I reckon) are trying to get up a steep hill, last one is a Merc as suddenly the tow bar breaks off and the Merc with the load is going backwards again rapidly without effective braking! Why they didn’t had some units at the back puzzles me… I’ll try to find it and post the link on here.
