I have deduced Patrick you and Dean O don’t have shoeboxs of photos it has to be a 40foot sea containers.

Thanks for the above photo Patrick I.m assuming its an Australian company but not one i have come across possibly Star Down Under may have in the eastern states however I reckon the driver in that photo would have a firm grip on his seat and he would still have both hands on the steering because I think the load is taking over and he is going straight with full lock on.

Ha ha, the good old ‘swy’ (zwei), is it legal now in Oz? When I was taxi driving in Sydney I was often required to take passengers deep down forest tracks in the dark to a clearing where dozens of gamblers were gathered throwing coins up in the air. As we got closer I was usually asked to knock the meter off so that the bright roof light indicating ‘vacant’ was lit and the assembled throng did not get nervous thinking the law was arriving. I never got cheated on the fare and was always paid more than the few minutes lost by the meter’s premature demise.

Was never tempted to hang around though, I prefer my gambling to have an element of more than pure chance.

Thanks DeanO
That 8 wheeler with the long wheel base is similar to 3 that were based in Broome when i first went to the Kimberlys ,they were used in the Cattle transport industry and the crate/ body length was 32 feet so I think that unit is similar it says 29 feet but take the Hiab off and it would probably be 32 feet then that length was the same as the railway used it was called a K wagon and for the transport of cattle that way the rail knew how many wagons they needed from the number of Kwagons of cattle unloaded by the trucks at the rail yards.

Very interesting Dean, must admit McIvers are a new one on me, even though I operated in the Territory and much later lived and worked all the way up through Queensland. I bet Star Down Under knows them, but I wonder if DIG does?

I ran into them at Windora in 1988 they were quite a large company operating in the channel country of northern Queensland the Owner was president of the Australian Transport Commission at one stage but now I think defunct but not sure.

Not sure if it’s an Australian firm actually, might as well be an American firm?
