The other Scammell 100 tonner (BLH 21) is in a shed at Rush Green Motors. She was nicknamed ‘Leaping Lena’ as she hd a tendency to lift the front end right off the ground when pulling away whilst being used as a ballast tractor.

Hiya that shed the scammell was in caught fire and burned really badly, luckley the Scammell survived, i think one tyre
was damaged by fire

Any idea where it’s off to?

No idea, but I think it’s based on the Bluebell Railway.

I took the Eddystone pics.in 2003 when it was fresh out of the workshop after restoration in Swanage. It can normally be found running on the railway there although it has had a few visits to others over the last 10 years.

Have been on the Swanage railway many times over the last few years, it really is one of the best in the country in my book, beautiful countryside, friendly staff, lovely restoration. Always look forward to my holidays down that way

Daz

Daz you are part correct as " Leaping Lena " did used to lift the front axle when setting off but it was only used as an artic it was based at Sheffield depot and driven by Cliff Lowther. I was lucky enough to be in it a couple of times while still at school and when I first started at Pickfords in the 60s I mated Cliff for a few months and he could tell a good tale about Leaping Lena
cheers Johnnie

5th space wheel.

Here’s a couple of photo’s of my dads. He worked for Pickfords Heavy Haulage for 30+ years but I can’t be sure he’s the driver. There is documentation on the rear of the photo’s which states they were taken in Leicestershire.
