head injury?

If you don’t inform DVLA of something that COULD have an effect on your driving, then sure, you might never run into any grief, just the same as one might not have any trouble driving without insurance… If it later comes out though, your insurance would be invalidated, and you’ll get IN points on your licence should you then subsequently be pulled I should think. There are plenty of employers who’ll not take on someone with IN points, even the base amount. Adversity to drivers with a cavalier attitude to what is effectively a “running bent record” is held in as low esteem by them as DR or DD points it would seem…

Sure, all this penpushing bullcrap added every few months is a pain, seems totally unfair, and costs us drivers a fortune in “register this, be passed for that, renew THIS entitlement” etc etc. but we are only faced with the task of playing along, and getting on with the job - obstacles aside. We all know it’s done to raise revenues rather than save lives, as we’re currently in a year that seems even worse than usual for driver deaths relating to working practices that could be said to be “unsafe”. The main one of these would be “having to work silly hours to get the national average wage”, but that’s another topic entirely.

Erm… you’re arguing against the wrong poster - I was saying that one SHOULD declare, and get your DVLA record to show “DVLA AWARE” with regards to one’s medical history.
NOT doing so leaves you wide open for a whole world of trouble!

Point one of yours I’m disagreeing with is your optimistic assumption that the DVLA would suspend ones licence for six weeks, not in the real world they won’t. They’ll just revoke it to be on the safe side and hang you out to dry until they get round to making an assessment, that’ll be after a least one appointment with their own doctors which seems to take a month+ just to organise, then a nice wait for said doctor to find a slot in his diary, then several more months for the results to arrive in front of the right person at Swansea, who won’t have any medical qualifications just a crib sheet, and then if alls well you’ll be invited to ‘‘re-apply’’ for an entitlement that used to be on your licence WTF, so more weeks in limbo.
So point two, ‘‘one SHOULD declare’’. The above scenario its something Doctors are well aware of so leave it to them and don’t go telling the DVLA yourself, let the Docs do it if they think it is really nessesary. If they think you’re of the slightest danger to other road users they’ve got to cover their asses and won’t hesitate to do so.

Hmm yes. It’s possible that had I been off AFTER digicards were implemented, then that indeed might have applied! I wonder what’s going to happen later this year, when my renewal is due? Not a lot I reckon. Must remain calm, and not be paranoid…

“Hey! - didn’t you once sit across the room in a pub from a mate who’s second cousin twice removed spoke harshly of the DVLA system, despite him being an official who decides if you keep your licence or not?”

“Erm…”

In any case, DVLA didn’t get chance to “remove me from driving” as it had already been done, and merely a declaration made to keep DVLA informed.
