Hay and Straw Wagons

Are these exempt from the laws regarding insecure loads? Had my windscreen covered earlier by one overtaking me on the A34. I know it’s not exactly bricks falling off but tippers so why not straw lorries?

Count yourself lucky. … you don’t have to worry about arxeholes trying to set fire to your load.

No laws on the road as regards to loose straw, most likely to be for impracticality reasons, never once been stopped in all the years I’ve done straw because it the loose stuff was blowing off.
But it does have to be fully sheeted top sides front and back to go on a ferry due to it being a fire risk.

Nothing to do with impracticality if it’s gotta be covered when on the ferry, or you could say the same about waste paper.

Bloody things make my hayfever play up rotten. I sneeze for the next fifty miles every time I encounter one!

Not really, UN1327 is a hazardous load on a ship, but not on the road!

So why has waste paper got to be covered on the road ?
Same difference

What I can’t work out is…
Red truck loaded running South
Green truck loaded running North

Why do they not deliver it locally?

Same difference, I guess, insofar as you want to secure your load to prevent loss, theft and hazard to others.

Waste paper is a waste product, and I guess has more of an impact on the environment and presents more of a hazard if its shed (not a shed made from waste paper of course).

Chaff from straw and hay is generally lost quite quickly on the journey, and although will always shed some, it’s no major quantity of the load and presents little hazard to the environment and (usually) other road users…

Just my opinion of course.

Try picking up a trailer loaded with waste paper that’s been sat outside in the rain with no sheets.

Been there done that with 3ft of snow piled on top for good measure

Don’t know how true as I know nothing of country life but someone told me they don’t fully sheet hay and straw as it will retain more heat and could be a fire risk.

That’ll happen with paper too. It’ll self combust

Oh it’s that time of year again is it?

Moaning about hay and straw wagons. :unamused:

Can’t you find something new to whinge about?
