Haulage firms near Stevenage

I’ve not long been living in the area so not clued up on what company’s are about.

I’m in work at the minute through an agency full time, but to be honest it’s starting to wear abit thin with me come pay day.

So I’m looking for places to try and get full time work.

It dosnt matter to me if I’m in a van or artic, as long as I’m at £100 or so a day. I don’t mind a night out now and then but tramping is not for me.

Again I don’t care what the work is be it bulkers tippers fridges skips whatever just looking for some info on who’s about.

I don’t mind travelling 20 mins or so, but anymore than that puts me back in London which I don’t want if I can help it.

Places I know of are

Beckers
Beatties
Welchs henlow
Bp Mitchell Hatfield
Matthews Hertford

And there is a firm in letchworh who’s name I can’t remember at the moment but those guys by the vw dealer.

Are there anymore places that you guys would recommend or know are currently recruiting.

Thanks in advance

Aztec at Letchworth, big place, that’s all I know…
Paul

That’s the one, the names was at the back of my head somewhere.

Cheers

There is an Ocado in Hatfield (and further afield W H Malcolm in Harlow) - although there has been some negative about the latter on here in the past. Longcrofts in Royston. Tesco RDC In Welham Green is still going AFIK.

Do you/have you worked for them ? A guy at my old firm worked for them but ended up coming back to us and that firm was dodgy as anything.

Still worth a try

Thanks

Thanks for that

I’ve lived in Hoddesdon and Harlow all my driving career. Apart from agency work and 6 months on Matthews, I’ve not worked in the area since 2003. The money is bobbins

I work there now,but leaving end of the month, only reason is I’ve done my ADR and I’m going on the tankers.

Standard company really mate, good and bad days,I’ll average about 40-42 hrs a week.Left alone, deliverys to bestways and alike or collections from Thames,Plaistow or stobart’s (sugar).

So I’m noticing ! That’s why I’m asking what else is about as all the advertised jobs are a joke. I mean I don’t want to come off as fussy but welchs for example on class 1 are advertising £8 odd an hour.

Agency are doing better than that but I need more stability and abit of holiday pay would be nice.

How was Matthews ? Would you recommend them at all ? (I’m guessing by the short time you were there no, but you don’t ask you don’t know)

Cheers

Matthews was a nice family run firm, good equipment although small and underpowered by today’s standards. The money was the issue for me. You were paid productivity bonus, but you couldn’t get enough work in. The stupid thing is you can earn more on a rigid than an artic, even though you do less hours. Have you tried frontier grain and marshals at sandy? Not far away but I haven’t a clue about money

Really? £8.00! Surprised they can get any drivers for that - I pay my van lads more than that and the Class 1s are on distinctly more than 8 quid and we are in Stevenage.

Not looking for Class 1 though and we do Euro work so away.

HE Payne?

They’re a bit up the A1 from you, might be worth a try. I don’t know much about them other than it appears to be mostly fridge work, kit’s in reasonable order and it’s quite a large fleet.

I’m running out of Bowmans in Ickleford at the minute and all but one of our drivers are ex frontier boys. It’s pretty much out all week with them so no good for me at the minute. I’ve got a 16 month old and a newborn so the misses needs abit of help otherwise I’d be abit moe open to nights away.

Yeah they are advertising £8.15 plus monthly compliance, now the way I see that is any grief you get gets taken from the compliance money, so bottom dollar £8.15 is an absolute joke.

Can I ask who you are for future reference?

Cheers

Yes, John Lewis just up the road from us.

Have sent you a PM brad.

Edit, seems stuck in a queue - you might get an e-mail instead.
