here,s a tale of woe that shocked me last week. this guy has pestered me for over a year to give him some casual shifts for some beer money but mainly to get a bit of experience. i have this job that is three round trips from glasgow to neasden nth london, leaves sunday morning
and back up next day. its an easy run down, park on customers site trailer is tipped and reloaded during the night, full use of facilities toilet, shower,
canteen etc then set off at 7.00 am. i thought i would give him a chance and it would be 4 weeks holiday cover so he would make a few bob, £550.00
in his hand every friday bearing in mind his nights out sun, tues,thurs i thought that was a reasonable wedge and its only every alternate week to
keep him within his fortnightly driving hours.
anyway he does the first two then says to me he,s not doing anymore because " he will miss his sunday football and a few bevvies afterwards with
his mates" i could,nt believe what iwas hearing
i am now convinced the WORLD HAS GONE MAD or is it just me!!!

If that’s £550 cash in his hand (as opposed to gross) then it’s not bad money as I imagine that driving hours will run out before spread so the hours won’t be silly(?). Whatever… point is you’ve gave him the chance he wanted and he blew it, so the best thing you can do now is file his number through the shredder and forget about him.
Long journey…time to think…do I REALLY want this…obviously the answer was no…not your fault.Sure someone worthy will turn up eventually or maybe not.

Sounds a fair craic does that. Even a greedy [zb] like me would do that if I had nowt else on. Fair play to you.

never mind all the double time nonsense, if you can drive a mega actros in a straight line and get through wallsall/brum bottleneck

Fair play to the guy. Obviously some things matter more to him in his life than work and I can’t see any fault with that.
I regularly turn down lucrative trips involving 13 -15 hour double time Sunday shifts because of football. There’s more to life, and some things are more important, than work.
as stated earlier this is one of my best customers i,ve had this job since 2006 and never missed a trip so it could have cost me big time. my normal driver has gone to australia for 4 weeks hols so it would have been a good few quid in his pocket. but there you go his loss other drivers gain.
I’d want double time for Sunday’s though, none of the standard time or time and a tenth BS that drivers seem to lap up these days.
