Has anyone seen todays News of the World?

Not just the News of the World though, this week that most annoying self important piece of excrement Ian Collins has been sitting in for Gaunty.

He slagged off motorcyclists before admitting to braking hard in front of a van, almost causing an accident, then he went on to talk crap about motorway testing for car drivers. Well you will have a long trip to the testing station if you live in the Highlands or Wales, Who will pay for the pupils from Peterhead, Pembroke or Penzance?

Or norfolk

Yes, but tractors are not allowed on motorways anyway

Saw the biggest trike of my life there last week.

Strange how this plastic face contradicts herself in her email replies. In one email she said she was doing 75MPH, then in another it was 70MPH. Now the ‘10 ton Artic’ was doing 80-90MPH, Instead of just 90MPH, which is it?? I don’t think she knows that her emails are being posted on here.

I hope she carries some bog paper around with her, so when she’s finished talking crap she can wipe her ar@e, I mean mouth.

I honestly never thought my thread would get so much attention. I almost feel flattered and that I should get some points or something… Anyway, here’s my reply, and yes, she said she was doing 75 - what a naughty girl!

Mr Richardson
Thanks for your note. Im perfectly aware trucks are fitted with speed limiters but as you must know - and as Ive been informed by VOSA - there are many drivers who tamper with those speed limiters in much the same way they tamper with their Tacograpghs. Im sure the majorty of lorry drivers are very good but surely you have to admit there are a few who let your profession down? It would be blinkered to think otherwise. And you’re right “Ten ton Truck” was wrong. i used the term figuratively because I have no idea how heavy it was - only that it was huge and it was going faster than me ( I was doing 75mph.)
Anyway keep safe on those roads.

I’ve just reported her to the cps. prosecution in the post.

believe it when i see it… keep us posted!

She has missed the point. Drivers writing to her to complain about the article are in no way sticking up for this “alledged” 90 mph, sandwich eating driver, more I would think about being tarred with the same brush. Her article was alarmist in the worst way, using a tragedy as ammunition against a section of the population that are already a soft target. Notice she references the “six people killed” in each of her replies, as if you won’t dare to press the point because some kids were killed. Yes it was a tragedy, however its in extremely poor taste to use such an event for your own ends.
Incidently, modern trucks- by that I mean anything made in the last 10 years-with the limiter disabled will rev out between 68-75 mph, thats flat out. Obviously if you take it out of stick on a steep hill you can go over that but you’d have to be pretty stupid I think.
If this twisted old hack has such a problem with HGV drivers, I would suggest that she keeps us off the road by refusing to buy or use any kind of product that has travelled by road. (incidently, this is a DREAM of mine, for every driver to go on strike and to turn to all the people who profess to hate lorry drivers-now faced with empty shelves- and say " you wonder what we do all day? well today we didn’t")

How many wagons would ever go 90mph without blowing up? I was going down the Rhuallt hill on the A55 one day, doing 50 because it is a nasty old hill. I was passed by an artic that made me look like I was stood still. About three miles later he is pulled up on a sliproad with smoke blowing out from the front. Although he was a tool, I reckon he was ‘only’ doing about 75max - 90 is just a ridiculous, egzagerated, hyped-up statement by someone who has no credibility and who has already changed her story on a number of occasions…I think we all know what that smell is - Male Cow ■■■! :unamused:

Completely agree with you. Brilliant idea, shame it would be impossible to organise.

90 mph might be possible with some older trucks…I had a old ford cargo 815 that someone had put a bigger engine in along with the 6 speed gearbox.that would do 80ish just off the clock(Clock ended at 80mph)…but more modern trucks seem to rev lower…old cargo would rev to 3000rpm no problem…my more modern merc 817 will rev to 2500rpm.

Does anyone know what sandwich it was?

I don’t want this to seem offensive to your post.
I have on some occasions had to launch it down a hill due to the fact that the [zb]ed up trailer with no abs will loose its’ brakes if i carry on breaking all the way down a hill and then all hell will brake loose when i get to the bottom. so therefore he may not be a tool, he may be thinking ahead.
some of us don’t have the advantage of the same trailers all the time, same year units etc.
i.e. 7 and 5 pin abs don’t always match up.

You aint never going to change her point of view on this. Because she’s one of the anti lorry brigade.
She’ll not take her blinkers off .

the woman has already admitted that she herself was speeding and seems to me if she spent has much time concentrating on her driving rather than what the tool driving the truck was doing then maybe she would have a valid point. this journo dont forget was the same person who slated people who appeared on reality tv shows, then at the drop of a hat signed up for celebrity big brother. shes a pathetic attempt of a journarlist which is maybe why she can only scrape a one typo a week in the news of the world…i have sent her an email and as yet have had no reply. please please carole take a trip out in a truck for a week to see what happens in the real world.

What a load of bollox!!!
If you are worried that the brakes will fade owing to overuse… drop a gear and control the truck, or does your truck not have gears and engine brake? Thats what a proffessional driver would do.

If it was intended to be ironic or sarcastic I apologise.
I didn’t read that way to me though.

Although not an artic, my geriatric 6-wheeler tipper is quite a handful fully laden downhill (since the rev-couter broke, I don’t even have an exhaust brake anymore  ). Before the hill, there is a large sign to reduce speed, so I will slow to about 40-45mph, maybe drop a cog and go down slowly. This hill is 6% for at least 1mile and has a sweeping left-hand bend on it (basically blind at M-way speeds).
At 75mph YOU WILL NOT STOP if you need to, especially in a 44tonner. 75mph is not ‘thinking ahead’, it is LUNACY. :open_mouth:
Also, I have to ask, if the trailer has ‘no ABS’ then why have you took it out? That is a serious faul surely? Also, I am assuming the trailer actually has some kind of braking system on it that can be used BEFORE the hill, i.e. in anticipation.
