Happy with your firm?

Following on from our mate Mo,s comments on the stobart/jealousy thread, saying he was blissfully happy with his employer, I wondered if anybody else felt the same, I worked for a co for a few years who really valued their drivers and treated us with respect, decent wages, good motors and extra money if you helped out and co-operated, which we done willingly, as we felt part of a team. Unfortunately the boss retired and we were all made redundant. Some firms are the exact opposite, they pay you the least that they can get away with, then screw pennies at any excuse, from the little they do pay , and treat drivers like a neccessary evil rather than an asset, they don,t see that it is actually counter-productive as it creates a them & us situation, which can only have an adverse effect back on them. Which type do most of us work for.

Answers on a postcard… :imp: it’s not the first option by the way as they are mostly now in the past…the employer that truly values it’s drivers are as rare as a very big rare thing that’s just been lost…

Happy with mine, a few downsides to the job, mainly it being in Tunbridge Wells and having to commute and pay for lodgings, but then I lodge in a pub do not all bad
But good job, treated well, paid well and have a bit of fun as well.

I’ve got no complaints either.

Very happy with mine. Well treated, well paid, feel like one of the family, listened to, gear well looked after and if I genuinely need something I only have to ask. :sunglasses:

Sadly for them there attitudes have not always been rewarded by [zb]taking, now ex, drivers :imp:

I just resigned from a crowd that didn’t give a ■■■■■■■■ to the drivers. Screwed every hour for sod all that they could from you. Gave ridiculously tight delivery schedules. eg…leave Devon 1430 one afternoon. Deliver Rome about 36 hrs later. Do-able, but not much scope for rest en-route.
Whinged about penny pinching, but spend money on new office chairs (Bless their poor backs. :unamused: )
Knobhead owner changes cars more than I changed my pants. On his 3rd in 12 months as I left.

The company I worked for in Rugby were brilliant. Brand new kit every 3 years (8 months for me once!)
Paid weekly, paid parking, meal allowance, night out money weekly. No hassle whatsoever from traffic office.
■■■■■■■■…I’ll name 'em…Panic Transport. Brilliant boss. :sunglasses:

not happy with mine being swapped about from different transport companies the current ones are dire worst than the last ones and i thought they where bad

In answer to your question Robroy - personally speaking I am happy in my job.

Happy with the hours I work. Happy with the pay I take home. Happy with the relationship I have with my employers and colleagues alike. Happy with the motor I drive. Happy with the work I do and happy with the people I deal with day to day.

However, I’m painfully aware that all this is all relative and could go ■■■■ up should the economy continue on it’s predicted downward spiral.

All of this “happiness” is relative anyway. The thought of going back in on Tuesday and getting back in the weekly rhythm of three days away from home a week doesn’t appeal.

I think I can honestly say that most of us at our place are fairly happy with the firm. Of course we all have niggles and whinges, thats all part of being a driver, but yes, all in all, I’m happy, I’m happy another week has passed and the moneys in the bank, and we’re still hanging in there, I’ll still be happy in 12 months time and am still there, oh please?

im happy aswell, never a problem if you need time off. payed weekly ontime aswell
if you are skint just ask he tries and helps, the perks of a small outfit. theres only 5 soon to be 6 of us and the boss drives aswell so you only do whats legal. all good up to date trucks and no problem if you damage them, nature off the job he says

I’m quite happy with my lot if i’m honest. I’m on for Wincanton & although they can be a bit ■■■■ about ‘procedures’ & ‘elf n safety’ i’ve worked for far worse. I’m a tramper Mon-Fri, i’m never asked to break the law, the job is clean & tidy, wages i’m content with (could always do with more though), & the guys i work with are, for the most part, a tidy bunch.

My only gripes are early morning starts (slowly getting used to them now) & plannners who’s planning sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.

Same here. No-one leaves, that’s how good it is. Decent money, work a 4-day week from October to end of March to keep in line with WTD regs; if you work your rest day it’s paid as overtime even though we’re salaried. Kit’s good and well looked after, our line manager stands our corner if the mill boss plays up. Good bunch of lads to work with too.

No more nights out either, though I sometimes rather miss that especially in summer; did a couple of seasons on game feeds out of Denbigh mill before it shut, lot of work up on Lancashire and the Scottish borders, spectacular countryside.

Downsides; you can get cold, wet and mucky especially on the bulk blower side.

Only regret is I didn’t find this job sooner; hopefully it’ll see me through to retirement.

Very happy as well, good plant, good pay, good work and it really bothers me when people slate them and they haven’t a clue what they’re on about! I moved from Dublin to Somerset recently and they couldn’t be more helpful and really did there best to accomadate me, even shipped my stuff for gratis.

Denbigh mill, used to take limestone into there!
Most of the time i`m quiet content with my job, as long as the suits leave me alone.

I can second that ,only I love early starts,no complaints

I have to admit I am pretty happy and content in my job, bar a few drivers who feel the need to whinge and moan about everything as well as moaning about other drivers.

I have one of the newest trucks of the fleet and its well maintained, get a daily text from the office with details of the work coming up, if I do have a problem its quickly sorted out. Boss is pretty helpful, gave me a little helping hand when I moved from Cardiff to Maidstone and let me carry on with the same job, just based from my own location.

Had a bit of the flu recently, was nice to see he bosses actually worried about me rather than the work!

Wages are decent and always on time and thats the main thing.

Guess I must be ! I’ve been there 35yrs :open_mouth:

love the job. my only gripe is they send me to devon and cornwall all the time in a motor that couldn’t pull the ■■■■ off a jelly baby.

Have to admit I’m very happy with my job and employers, kit isnt bad so long as they let me keep my FM and not get a DAF :stuck_out_tongue:
Planner understands what problems we encounter

Tbh, my job’s just a job, faceless boss / planner (never even met) who doesn’t give a ■■■■ about you and loves the line “what time are your hours up today” meaning, can I work you till 11pm on a Friday :imp:

The company I work for seem ok, no fault is left un-rectified (if they know about it - drivers :imp: ) even a stereo got replaced for a driver, trucks are modern, well maintained, don’t really deal with them much because we’re contracted out to the above planner.

No xmas bonus’ or early dart or anything, just get on with your job and get wages at the end - which is why I still turn up everyday.
