Had the usual bank holiday work phone call!

Dozy dozy dozy glad to see you can fall back on a good job hard to come by now a days.I can fall back on car machanics but would struggle with all the tech crap today.

Thanks Colin , hard too believe isn’t it , but I’ve played the fool for years and it’s bloody hard knack too get out of   , yea I know what you mean but it’s better too have someone with a bit of knowledge than no knowledge , I do a bit for neighbour over fence , he was my manager for years , but I left , we lost contact but when he moved in we chatted again , asked me what I was upto , and said he was really struggling for turners , at the time I wasn’t doing many hours so thought why not , and it was nice too catch up with old mates .
I’ve turned him down since I’ve been tramping as its too much with hours I’m doing , but he’s fine with that , just said if your ever stuck , had enough of driving , want some cash in you pocket shout me , I’ll sort you out something .
I often think 6-2 pm , 2 pm - 10 pm earning as much as I do know would be lovely , the sensible thing too do , but I just love truck driving , it’s just in the blood , I know I’d be longing too be out on the road after a day two , I’d just be messing folks about .
It’s always there , I can’t see a time I’ll ever do it again full time , but if needs must , I’ll have too until the next truck driving job commes up

employers will allways think you are at their beck and call 24/7,i work 5 days a week and if I am asked if I can work Saturdays I tell the truth and that is a polite no because if you have a particularly crap week you need Saturday to do what you have to do,[shopping and other things] Saturday night to wind down, sunday to relax, then be ready to start another week, and besides I look forward to my lay in bed sat and sun, sometimes I will set the alarm for when I get up during the week, then when it goes off at 4am I turn it off and go back to sleep, gives you a good feeling, sounds daft but it works for me

SOME employers think that way. In the past 10 years the only Saturdays I’ve been asked to work have been for training purposes and to go collect some empty trailers. The rest of the time it’s very much Monday-Friday only, no nights out, almost always finished by around 4pm.

What real difference does working on any of the seven days in the week? Some seem to really make a big deal of having weekends off when in reality sats and sun are no different from any other day. Too many set in their ways making such a big deal over weekends/bank holidays, and why exactly does weekend work warrant extra pay??

Probably down to other family members being off at the weekend as most other industries are not as 24/7 as the logistics world. I personally think there is enough variation around for everyone to find something suitable for themselves hours-wise at least.

Plenty different kinds of work such as multidrop/tramping/supermarket/trunking/fuel/muckaway/municipal etc etc around on all different patterns weather you are looking for nights/days/tramping/local etc. Its all about finding something that suits you best really.

Most organised events particularly ones that one might want to take the family to are on a Saturday or Sunday. That is one very good reason for many who do not want to work at the weekend and want extra payment as compensation if they do work. There are also still people who do not want to work on Sundays for religious reasons. It is also a generational thing the factories did not work Sundays because the workforce went to church or chapel, they did however work Saturdays. Over time the week reduced from six days to five and a half, and the standard factory day came down from 12 hrs until we got a fairy standard 40 hr week 8 hr day. Since then it has slowly crept up again as the younger generation really don’t seem to care about being hoodwinked into thinking that hard won working hours and conditions are outdated and stand in the way of progress and the magic growth word.

Oh look. A ■■■■ that thinks we should all work weekends for standard pay. Cockwomble.

+1 I may be single but I have a home life and close family so my weekends are precious
P/s 2 days off in the main week is not the same as a Saturday and Sunday off !!!

Your lucky ours don’t even ask , txt recieved 16.40 today , on Monday go with a flat to ------- and pick up a load of pallets for 3 drops in Bradford ( I work tues- sat :unamused: )
P.s not a zb chance :exclamation:

Do you still use the green lube?

Dropped my unit in for service yesterday afternoon, picking it up on Tuesday morning. About 7ish. None of this stupid o’clock starting either.

You took the job. Either put up or shut up. Grow a pair or find a new job. I’d suggest night security guard.

i didn’t take the job at all , I was tuped over from innovate , as for security guard why would I do that , I’d just go back into engineering , served a apprentiship as machinist ( grinder ) , but have done milling , turning , jig boring , horizontal boring , vertical boring welding , fitting , honing , surface grinding , external grinding , internal grinding , spline grinding ,inspector , worked at rolls Royce , aveling barford , kontacks etc .
Don’t speak for me , your option other than lorry driving maybe security guard at morrisons but mine wouldn’t be :unamused: :unamused:

I’m still here dozy, but have more interesting things to do with my life than be on here all the time.
You can find another driving job? You choose to be treated like ■■■■, and keep coming back for more. And more. And then coming on here, like a little girl. If your planner ■■■■ you over for another 15 hour day, you bend over and get the lube. Then come on here and cry.
All that is your choice. You can find another driving g job. But you choose not to.
As for your machinist skills, if that is true, why would you be any different at that as driving. You have so many accidents, which are never your fault, I would not want to be in the same workshop as you.
And if you really prefer getting g ■■■■■■ over for 70+hours a week as a driver, stressed to breaking and at risk of loosing your relationship, rather than work 35 hours for better money, than you have only yourself to blame.
So make your choice, and stop whining.

Oh, I will politely decline your kind offer of employment. If I loose my hgv entitlement I rather go back to favin about with boats. Money not as good, but oh so much fun.
