I’ve been made redundant 3 times in my life, the 1st time I was anxious as hell as to what the future held for me, but I decided not to let it get me down and put a positive spin things. The next couple of times I wasn’t anxious at all, I just took it in my stride.

The longer you have worked there, the more expensive it is to make you redundant.

Fingers crossed for you.

Thats what i keep telling the mrs. She feels like she’s at risk, she has 15 years service, the company isn’t closing but will be slimming down. I said to her I reckon she’ll be bottom of pile to be let go.

Basically an invite to start looking around…saves on the old redundancy payout.

We had redundancys last year due to moving work around & drivers with 20 plus years service were laid off ahead of guys that had been there 3 years, this was mainly due to the older guys being stuck in there ways and not being flexible whilst the newer guys were willing to do different jobs.
The older drivers thought they were immune but couldn’t see that the newer guys were better for the company.
Redundancys are done on needs of the business not time served.

Unless you have something different in a contract of employment, top redundancy payout is 12 weeks wages after 12 years service.
It ain’t a lot. Company would get rid based on who they perceived was least valuable i think.
I’ve been made redundant 4 times, never did really well out of it. Minimum payout required by law each time.

I’m sure you’ve checked, but (unless your contract stipulates more generous terms, and assuming you are aged between 22 and 41) you’re looking at 5 weeks’ pay, with the weekly pay being capped at £538. In other words a maximum of £2690. Not going to pay the bills for long, is it…?

It ain’t a lot.

Service is capped at 20 years (not 12). All years of service while aged over 41 are payable at 1.5 weeks per year of service (so could be as much as 30 weeks’ pay for an older employee). The weekly amount is however capped at £538. So the absolute maximum “Statutory redundancy pay” is £16140. Not to be sniffed at, but not a fortune.
