Manty years ago, i was delivering milk to Tesco stores, one week just before christmas, i had one particularly nasty warehouse man who insisted on keeping me waiting while he pulled tesco own lorries around me. on the 3rd night, there was no one behind me, but he would not let me in as he was “expecting another tesco wagon anytime” I persuaded him to let me in, told him i would be as quick as possible. Bear in mind that we had to unload the trolleys and put them away in the fridge for them, as well as sort out the sell by dates so that they sold them in the correct order.
I was about half way through, when he came and demanded that i pull off the bay so that the Tesco wagon could get in. I told him, if i pull of the bay, i don’t stop at the gate, i go to my next delivery, He told me i wouldn’t dare! so i did. got a message to call the boss when I got to the next store. told him what happened.and he told me not to go back, bring thier milk to the dairy and they will re deliver it in their own time
The store ran out of milk that day. and instead of getting the milk at 2am, they finally got it at 4pm. Tesco went mad with the dairy, until they were told the story. Next night, i get pulled around 3 tesco wagons, and warehouse man even helped me put the milk away!
To Shuttle, 3300John & truckerjon, all good stories
There are times when you really have to take a stand whatever the consequences
I’m sure there are some people out there whose only purpose in life is to mess our day up in whatever way possible. I can visualise them all meeting in a little shed at bottom of the garden on a Sunday night working out their small minded plans for the upcoming week

I just drive off from people like that.
I have always had back-up from the company I have worked for…They have known me and the sort of person that I am.
If I stuck around, I would have floored them…Far safer for everybody, for me to just drive off. Now…I am self employed…So I can do as I jolly well like

First aggressive or sweary and the load gets pulled out!!
There are some stories in this post that warm the cockles of my old heart.
The customer is not always right!
I’ve always worked on the premise that you treat me decent and I will return the favour, treat me like something you trod in then expect the same in return.
The last bloke I worked for would always stick up for his blokes, even wrongly on occasions, a good bloke was Ken.
I worked for another that was the dead opposite. He would always but always side with the customer, so much so that the two of us us who operated on my premise of treat me decent etc were always receiving bollockings, sometimes getting an ear bashing on the phone whilst still delivering! Never, not once do I recall him ever listening to our version of events before gobbing off!
On one occasion I received a £20 note and a commendation off a customer for being such a helpful driver! He didn’t believe it, believed it even less when I told him I got 20 quid as well!
I just muttered as I walked away, treat me decent etc., arsewipe! It got so bad I carried one of those dictaphone thingies with me to record any confrontations with ‘customers’!
THE CUSTOMER IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT!
‘Crazytrucker’
Always have a laugh with the checkout girls in Morrisons about the customer always being right etc, those girls get just as much abuse as us!
I have worked with several companies who have backed me up in a situation like that, occasionally I have refused to discharge a load if I thought it was wrong or dangerous and had back up, a long time ago we were delivering cyanide and the operator came out with a jam jar on a piece of string to ask for a reference sample.
I wasn’t the only one to refuse, but I think I was the first one to refuse to deliver and left the premises. It took 2 or 3 hours to be sorted and from that moment the customer took the loads without sampling them.
Another one I remember was a wholly unsatisfactory method of discharge which I refused, the ■■■■ hat the fin when the plant manager and safety officer got involved but I was venerated when I made out a written report of the facility and sent them both a copy.

hiya… was that at brought chester■■? the man on the bank was a pain.i took 2 nights a week of him
at christmas…of corse been a ex driver you was in and out but i only did it for that period. i told drivers i was leaving… they wanted me to take over and move him…i think he’s still their 7 years on…
I had a bust up with a customer years ago, basically he called me everything under the sun and threatened me, so i drove off, got called into office when i got back as he had made a complaint against me, told the boss my side of the story and while i was there he telephoned the customer put my version to him, and then the boss told him his contract had been terminated with immediate effect due to speaking to his staff the way he did… this was when we were one of the few independant cit companies in the area, after a few months he came creeping back to us had to pay more then he was paying and i got the first collection delivery in which i got an apology…
I have a simple reply to arsy customers, if they start with the attitude, i simply return with “BAD DAY?
Guess what? Not My Fault! Now you going to load/tip me or not”?
Most change their attitudes then
Sounds to me like you done well to keep your composure mate! I had a couple of words with a “security” man (Nigerian) at the Westfield developement at White City a couple of years ago and after a few pleasantries, he called me a White supremacist ■■■■■■■■ and told me that if I don’t like it in this country I should go back to my own country!!! Now, I have been known previously to be a bit “Jim Davidson” but at this point I had made no reference whatsoever to his ethnic origin! He was clearly trying to goad me into making a suitably racist remark and i’m afraid to say that I obliged him for about 5 minutes, unrepeatable on here and introduced him to the business end of a 4x2 timber that was conveniently close.
Got banned from site obviously and after the police had finished I ended up wearing a hi viz vest pushing a broom for 100 hours but it was probably the most satisfying thing i’ve ever done.
Its a good job the security had hard hats too or I might have been typing this from the comfort of a nice 10’x8’ room in the Big House. Happy days!!
ive never really had a major dissagrement with customers tbh, ive had a few be absolute {zbs} but i have selective hearing so hear what i want to and ignore their moaning.
ive had transport managers stick up for me though and a few who wouldnt believe anything you said even if you had video eveidence
Years ago when I was doing parcels, I pulled into some sort of builders merchant type place. This place could have swallowed a fleet of transits never mind the three boxes I had for them. I’d pulled in at 10 to 2 but it was 5 past before some big fat ■■■■■■■■ with attitude appeared.
Fat ■■■■■■■■, “They’re not booked in”,
Moi, “It’s three boxes mate”,
Fat ■■■■■■■■, " Don’t matter, anyway we don’t take deliveries after two",
Moi, “It was ten to two when I got here”,
Fat ■■■■■■■■, grudgingly " Well I’ll see if we can take them",
At this point I throw them back in the van.
Fat ■■■■■■■■, “Wot you doing?”,
Moi, " You seem to think I give a ■■■■ what you want. I don’t and I’m taking them back now!"
There were several phone calls over the following weeks from the customer requesting redelivery but I waited until they re-ordered and went back with 6 boxes. Fatty was nowhere to be seen!
Many moons ago we had a regular delivery of cleaning chemicals to Turnocks Cakes.,with a 7am tip time as they would not allow other vehicles in the vicinity during unloading, on arrival at 0650, I was told to f off by the chap at goods inwards, so following his instructions to the letter I got back in the truck and carried on as I had another 14 drops on many up north, at 8 am I rang in the office and told them what had occured and told carry on, by 3pm I recieved another call asking what was the soonest I could get back there, as I was in Brechin and still heading north I said friday morning, can you not get back sooner was the next question, maybe at best late thursday but unlikely, well you will have to carry on now we will talk tommorrow.
deliberatly took my time, and the conversation the next day was late am Friday, I arrived about 11am, and was greeted by the MD asking why the delivery had not happened on wed as they had a line down since thursday pm having run out of a product, I pointed out the chap who told me to f off and explained that I only did what I was told, the truck was unloaded PDQ and I was asked to make a formal statement, and left with the biggest bag of tea cakes and caramel wafers, along with an apology from the MD…
Both my company, and the company we hauled for backed me up at all times, and the next time I turned up there to deliver was tipped imidiatly offerd a brew, and told the lad who had told me to f off had been dismissed over this.

That is a result then!
It has happened so many times I’ve lost count but it usually goes like this -
Me - " Got x number of pallets of ( insert your food product here) for you .
Them - "they aren’t booked in / your late / we weren’t expecting that today/ it should have been here yesterday ,tomorrow , this morning "
Me - " Well they are here now do you want them or not?"
Them - " No "
Me - " No problem - sign here stating why you don’t want them "
Them - “What do you mean ?”
Me - “Simple enough mate - sign the paperwork with the reason why you turned me away . Sorry sign and print your name nice and clearly so my lot and your lot can identify you later when the brown stuff hits the fan”
Them - " I’ll make a call "
Me “Why ? I thought you were in charge here ?” Camera phone out and take a picture of them . " Just so theres no confusion mate .It proves I was here "
Anytime soon they lose the will to argue and let you in.
Well done mate i would have done the same. Was this drop in bolton ? I know your last drop was

You want to be careful doing that unless you have no problem with their fist coming into contact with your body parts. We would’ve been having some “discussions” if you’d done that to me, that’s for sure.

Hi mate, no not Bolton, the delivery was in Ashton-in-Makerfield and it is a real PIA as it is right on the traffic lights when you come up from the East Lancs Rd;

I remember once doing a job on agency. I got a phone call at dinner time asking me to go into local abbatoir to deliver a load of meat to a factory in the middle of nowhere near Oswestry. I got there as fast as I could and popped on a bay. When I went into the office to hand in my paperwork, the bloke behind the counter went ballistic, effin and jeffin and calling me all the names under the sun going on saying I should have been there that morning etc etc.
I walked out of the office, jumped in the cab and pulled off the bay. I then walked round to the front of the factory, into the main reception and demanded to see the general manager. He duly came down and I informed him of what had gone on, that I don’t get paid to take unwarranted abuse from someone who I have never met before and pointed out that I didn’t actually work for the company I was driving for and that as far as I was concerned, I was getting in the wagon and going back with the load and I didn’t care if the factory production stopped. He apologised profusely and dragged this guy in who turned out to be a supervisor. Said bloke was then handed an arse ripping and made to apologise. I think he knew that he’d gone too far because it was a sincere apology and not just “if I have to”.
More drivers need to do that instead of just taking it from the pleb at goods in. Go directly to the general manager or the shift manager. Don’t even say you’re doing it to the moron giving the abuse - just lock the motor and walk off.

That situation you speak of has arisen . Security took a swipe - he ended up in hospital with a dislocated shoulder and 3 teeth missing . I claimed self defense and was totally cleared. I told the judge exactly what I did and why .
