Had a Disagreement with a customer!

Well I pulled up outside this fella’s shop at 1600 yesterday afternoon and as I still had 1 delivery to do in Bolton I rang my boss to ask him to call the Bolton customer and say I wouldn’t be there until 1700 approx.

Whilst I was talking to my boss the customer came banging on my passenger side door gesticulating to me to get out of the truck and unload his goods :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
When I got out of the truck the customer started ranting at me that I should have been there first thing in the morning :exclamation: :exclamation: When I pointed out that he was down as the 7th delivery on my running sheet and I had no control over how the load or run was planned and I didn’t know what the run was until I picked the truck up he seemed to get even more wound up. :unamused: :unamused:

Anyway there is a limit of verbal abuse I will take from anyone and this fella crossed it, BIG TIME, I told him I wasn’t prepared to put up with his attitude and I would take the stuff back to the factory and take the consequences :exclamation: :question:

I rang my boss again and explained what was happenning and that I wasn’t prepared to put up with verbal abuse and what turned in to physical threats from anyone and if this customer wanted the stuff he had ordered he would have to get in the truck and get the stuff himself because I definetly wasn’t doing it :open_mouth:

So the customer got in the back and started struggling to get some of his order out whilst I stood at the back checking what he was taking, all the time giving me verbal abuse which I was ignoring :exclamation: :exclamation:
The problem had happened, I had taken a stand and the boss knew the situation, I couldn’t turn the clock back so I as far as I was concerned this might be my last run run for this company so what the hell :laughing: :exclamation: :exclamation:

The customer finally got the stuff he wanted and said the rest could go back to the factory and he didn’t want me bringing his delivery again :exclamation: :exclamation: To which I said ‘Thank You’ because I’m going to tell my boss that I’m not prepared to deliver to this shop anymore anyway :exclamation: :exclamation: I’ve only made this delivery once before and took everything off the truck and took it into the shop because there was no-one to assist but this time someone was there but because I was ‘allegedly’ late for the delivery he wanted to take his anger out on me.

Anyway’s I got my last delivery done in Bolton and headed back to the factory expecting a bit of a showdown and maybe me looking for another job :frowning: :exclamation:

How wrong could I be :laughing: :laughing: :wink:
All my bosses’ (all 4 of them) had had some sort of ‘do’ with this fella in the past and called him a nutter and a mad [zb] and whatever had happened they knew it wasn’t my fault and just to move on from it and get on with next week.

In this day and age when your company always seems to put the customer first, whatever the circumstances, I think this was a
RESULT :laughing: :laughing: :wink:

Regards
Dave Penn;

have you seen those signs saying something along the lines of “our workers deserve to be treated with respect. anyone not doing so will be asked to leave.” can you get one that fits on a truck?

I have seen those signs ‘timmo’ will be getting 2 next week to fit on the the doors :laughing: :laughing: :wink:

Regards
Dave Penn;

Dave, just wrap one around a baseball bat and smack him upside the head with it! I’m glad you work somewhere where you get back up from the boss(es) :laughing:

I had a customer giving me the pointy finger an inch from my nose, so i bit it :grimacing:
Told my gaffer what had happend and awaited the showdown on my return, instead I got the ‘not quite right what you did but well done’ kinda thing, never did get any ■■■■ off the guy after that.

Quality. Funniest thing I have read on here for ages. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

It felt good to be supported by my employer’s but I’ve gotta say I was a bit worried before I got back to the factory :question: :exclamation:

When you are driving for an own account company you know you have to treat all the customers as if they are the best customer the company deals with :unamused: :unamused: But this fella’s attitude was beyond a joke and I wasn’t taking it :exclamation: :exclamation:

I made a stand and was backed up by my employer’s but I do not think this is the usual thing for a lot of driver’s :angry: :angry:

I was lucky this time in making a stand :exclamation: :exclamation: I bet there’s a few who have ended up sacked for doing something similar.

We do seem to be the only profession that has to put up with abuse and threats :angry: :angry: :angry:

Dave trust me, that’s not true - try managing a bookies for two years, then you’ll see abuse and threats :imp:

I just drive off from people like that.
I have always had back-up from the company I have worked for…They have known me and the sort of person that I am.
If I stuck around, I would have floored them…Far safer for everybody, for me to just drive off.

Now…I am self employed…So I can do as I jolly well like :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah I know Sarge, it just feel’s that way sometimes :wink:

I really feel for the people who keep our streets clean :question: they definetly have a ■■■■■■■■ job than us and get abuse from everyone just for doing there job :exclamation: :exclamation:

Regards
Dave Penn;

My attitude is, everybody dumps crap - but I don’t have to pick it up :wink:

If this is a regular thing from this ■■■■, then your company need to be asking themselves do they need his business, and to be telling him that any more threats like that will result in the termination of the agreement.

Alternatively, go back again, and then if he starts on you, call the police and tell them you are being threatened while doing your job.

Ken.

I had this from a irate customer once , in my face spraying his salava in my direction, i did what any other driver would do in this situation and head butted him , sparco he was , never did manage that delivery for some reason .I now work for the diplomatic corp :smiley:

Well Ken, I nearly did call the police because this guy was spoiling for a fight, verbally and physically, :exclamation: :exclamation: but he was also doing everything possible to provoke me into a racist kind of response to him. He is an Indian and I am UK white.

But it didn’t work :open_mouth: I didn’t rise to the bait :open_mouth: :laughing: :wink:

The company I work for is Asian owned and me and the lass in the office are the only white English (first language) employee’s also my 10yr old son has second generation Pakistani heritage :question:

So for someone to try to draw me into a scenario where I could have been accused of being racist apart from not being on time for their delivery was very difficult and I really ain’t going to let it happen again :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Company backed me thats all that matters :exclamation: :exclamation:

Nice one Dave it sounds like you handled a difficult situation perfectly, it’s too easy to let these things get out of control.
Are you still working for the bed places in batley?

Thanks Mr B your’e dead right about it being too easy to let things get out of control, this situation could have easily escalated and I know who would have eneded up taking the rap :imp: :imp: :exclamation:

Yeah I’m still on the bed job :laughing: :wink: It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it suits me fine, been with the current company 6 months and they seem to be weathering the financial storm at the moment. I get all over the Country, 2/3 nights out a week and the money’s above average for the job.
