Hello & I am a new member to the site.
The copyright name on that picture seems to ring a bell ?, as I knew a freelance journalist of that name who used to travel with a good pal of mine at the time and worked for HG Brown.
There is a chance that you may know him ?, a Bill Robins who i guess is still trucking knowing him
BTW I can remember some of the drivers not being to impressed when the Macks arrived and having to give up the 89s & 140s (?)
Hiya Brian, I didnt drive one long enough to be able to make a constructive (or otherwise) comment on the Macks , i only drove one twice once in Turkey to see what they were like and another time i went to tip one in LB and went back to the yard at first chance to change units as i didnt like it one little bit. i left me with the impression that the Yanks had an awful lot of catching up to get anywhere near the Swede as far as comfort and power went.

I would assume that is how they earned the nickname of " The Yankee Atki " then
cheers Johnnie
Well anything that you have to bend down to see i the mirror when in the saddle doesnt seem right somehow, and the interior was covered in tacky imitation leather that was plastic and the lock on it was terrible plus it came with crossply tires not a fan !
Have to agree about the Mack what a pile of crap they were/are & yes they certainly are the American Atki. Still its a funny old world as you know and I can remember many a driver praising the Atki / Foden / ERF with the (they have never broken down on me)
No mate they may not have, but sure as night follows day, there is a bloody good chance that they will break you !
True story.
Started my first week of training at Tate’s with George in his Foden rigid tank, well as you can imagine coming from a 140 I was horror struck, asked him what he done to upset the boss ?
Turned out he had never driven anything but Fodens and never had a bloody clue what a 140 was
It was about 5 years later that he eventually got around to talking to me again (I ■■■■ you not)
Anyway sorry to hijack the thread & I should start another about agricultural machinery masquerading as Lorry’s in the UK.
Well blow me down Brian ! Nice to hook up with you after all these years mate. How are you ? married yet? have never seen any of the old crew apart from Roy Jackman who i met in a layby one day that seems like a lifetime ago now. i did see you one time when you were working for Peter and flashed my lights at you a couple of times but you never can be certain who it is flashing lights can you?i heard the news about JB when i was away aome where that was bad luck he was a great bloke i reckon. are you still in the LB area ?
